MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State’s Steve Coles and teammate Brittney McCants were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week. North Carolina A&T’s Keenan Smith and Coppin State’s Jennifer Mitchell were named the MEAC Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Friday. 

Coles (So., Tappahannock, Va.) logged two personal-best times in winning the 200 and 400 meters at the Joe Hilton Invitational. Coles ran a 21.45 in the 200, while clocking in at 48.25 in the 400.

McCants (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) ran a season-best 11.92 in the 100 meters at the Joe Hilton Invitational. He also helped the Aggies win the 4x100 relay, with a time of 47.04.

Smith (Jr., Richmond, Va.) captured first in the long jump and second in the triple jump at the Aggie Invitational. Smith is now ranked second in the MEAC for the triple jump and ninth in the long jump.

Mitchell (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished first and second in the triple and long jumps, respectively, at the Donald Webster Invitational. Mitchell leaped 39-05 in the triple jump and a 19-2 in the long jump.   

 

Other Top Performers:

Brandon Baskerville (CSU) secured a win in the high jump with a 6-4.5 mark at the Donald Webster Invitational.

Haysean Cowe-Clarke (CSU) took the top spot in the 100 meters, with a time of 10.61, at the Donald Webster Invitational.

Demetria Dickens (NCAT) had two top-10 finishes at the Aggie Invitational, throwing 132’9” in the hammer throw and 142’5” in the discus. 

Jessica Farr (NCAT) captured top-three finishes in the 200 and 400 meters at the Aggie Invitational.

Desmonae Gray (NSU) leaped a season-best 40-1.25 to win the triple jump at the Joe Hilton Invitational.

Saeed Jones (NCAT) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished third in the 1500 meters.

Effiey Kosegei (FAMU) placed first in the 5000-meter run while setting a personal record of 17:51.24 at the Florida State Invitational.

Sasha-Ann Lebert (FAMU) set a FAMU record with a toss of 50.08 meters in the discus at the Florida State Invitational.

Wallace Spencer (Howard) won the 110 hurdles, 200 meters and placed third in the 100 meters at the Donald Webster Invitational.

Tanaya Yarde (CSU) won the 400 hurdles at the Donald Webster Invitational with a time of 62.05.
