Savannah State Relay Teams Top Carolina Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Savannah State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field relay teams led the Tigers with first place finishes at the Carolina Cup, hosted by Winthrop University, in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Thursday.

The Lady Tiger team of Asia Stinson, Jazy Seay-Blane, Aluntrea Davis, and Kortney Grey won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.70.

In the men’s division of the 4x100 relay, Kenshard Hamilton, Justin Leggett, Cameron Hall, and Lemaar Shakir won the event with a time of 41.42.

Hamilton also won the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.80. Leggett finished second in the event with a time of 21.95. In the 100 meter, Hamilton placed second with a time of 10.83.

Hall won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.68, followed closely by Shakir in second place with a 14.70. Shakir won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.31.

In the men’s field events, Dolphurs Hayes finished second in the pole vault with a distance of 4.55m (14-11.00). Derrick Akins finished third in the discus throw with a distance of 44.33m (145-05).

The Tigers finished third overall as a team with 83 total points. Appalachian State won the team scoring with 134 points, followed by Gardner-Webb with 96 points. Davidson tied SSU with 83 points.

For the Lady Tigers, Stinson finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.85. Seay-Blane finished second in the 400 meter with a time of 57.44. Bartley topped the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.03, finishing third.

In the field, Indiah Bell finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.26m (36-11.50). Alysia Potts finished sixth in the pole vault competition with a distance of 3.05m (10-00.00).

The Lady Tigers finished fifth overall with 43 points. Appalachian State won the women’s division with 141 points, followed by Winthrop with 124. USC Upstate finished third with 78 points, followed by Gardner-Webb (58).

Savannah State returns to the track on April 19 at the University of South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
