MEAC Announces Weekly Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman’s Tremayne Banks and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Gayon Evans were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Dillon Simon and Norfolk State’s Kiara Howell were named the MEAC Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.

Banks (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) finished in the top 25 of the 110m hurdles at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Banks logged the third-best time in the MEAC and 22nd-best nationally at 14.11. He also competed in the 4x100, 4x400, and sprint medley relay.  

Evans (Sr., Clarendon, Jamaica) had a perfect meet at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting, winning the 100m and 200m in times of 11.53 and 23.31, respectively. Evans set Vert Stadium records in both events.

Simon (Jr., Pottersville, Dominica) finished first in the shot put and second in discus at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting. Simon’s 17.88 mark in the shot put broke the Vert Stadium record. He also improved his own school record in the discus, throwing 54.95.

Howell (So., Chesapeake, Va.) finished top-10 in all three of her events at the Colonial Relays (shot put, discus and javelin). Howell placed third in the shot put with a mark of 13.51 meters (44-4 ft.), third in the discus with a mark of 45.59 meters (149-7 ft.), and 10th in the javelin, with a throw of 38.59 meters (126-7 ft.).

 

Other Top Performers:

Demetria Dickens (NCAT) placed fifth in the discus at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting.

Jessica Farr (NCAT) clocked the MEAC’s fastest time in the 400 meters this season, with a time of 54.47. at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

Kenneth Fisher (BCU) took the top spot in the MEAC this season in the long jump with a mark of 7.69 meters (25-02.75 ft.) at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

Tristie Johnson (BCU) finished in the top-20 of the 100m and 200m at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

Fiona Masai (NSU) ran the MEAC’s second fastest time this season in the 3,000m steeplechase, with a time of 11:23.80, at the Colonial Relays.

Ishakeema Swain (MSU) set a school record in the 1,500 meters, with a time of 4:38.54, at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

Todd Townsend (NCAT) had a top-25 finished in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
