MOSCOW – Former Hampton University track & field standout Francena McCorory came in sixth during the finals of the women’s 400 Meters at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships on Monday.
McCorory ran a 50.68 in the final as Great Britain’s Christine Ohuruogu won the event with a time of 49.41.
On Sunday, McCorory won her semifinal heat by posting a personal-best time of 49.86. She also ran a 50.56 in Saturday’s preliminary heats, winning her race.
McCorory was a three-time NCAA champion in the 400 Meters at Hampton, as well as a four-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American. She also won the gold medal in the 4x400 relay at the London Olympics last summer.
In 2011, McCorory anchored the 4x400 relay team that won gold at the World Championships in Korea. She also finished fourth that year in the 400 Meters.
In 2012, McCorory was fifth in the world in the 400 Meters.
