MEAC Track Preparing For NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Three Hampton University student-athletes, as well as the Lady Pirates’ 4x400m relay team, will compete in the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

Trey Holloway will be the Pirates’ lone representative this weekend, after advancing from the NCAA East Preliminary back on May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. in the 110m hurdles with a 13.81, placing him ninth in the semifinals.

Holloway also ran a season-best 13.77 in the preliminary heats.

Le’Quisha Parker qualified in the 200m dash after running a 23.54 to finish ninth in the semifinals two weeks ago, while Benita Taylor qualified in the 800m run with a school-record 2:05.28 in the semifinals.

Parker and Taylor were also on the 4x400m relay squad that ran a 3:35.69 to come in sixth and qualify for the NCAA meet. Emmy Fraenk and Malekah Holland were also on that squad.

Taylor was a Second Team All-American in the 800m run during the indoor season.

The women’s 800m run semifinals will be run on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. EST, and the women’s 200m dash semifinals will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. EST. The men’s 110m hurdles will kick off with the semifinal heats on Thursday at 8:20 p.m. EST, while the women’s 4x400m relay semifinals will take place later that evening, at 9:20 p.m. EST.

The women’s 800m final will be run on Friday at 8:20 p.m. EST.

On Saturday, the finals of the women’s 200-meter dash (5:43 p.m. EST), men’s 110-meter hurdles (6:16 p.m. EST), and women’s 4x400-meter relay (6:43 p.m. EST) will be run.

Wednesday’s action will be streamed live by the Pac-12 from 3-11 p.m. EST, as well as 2-6:50 p.m. EST on Thursday, 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, and 3:30-5 p.m. on Saturday. ESPN3.com and WatchESPN will stream Thursday’s action from 6:50-11 p.m.

On Friday, WatchESPN will stream live from 7:30-10 p.m. EST, and Saturday’s action will be streamed on WatchESPN from 5-7 p.m. EST. ESPNU will also have live coverage on Friday and Saturday during those times.

CSU's Victorian Preps for NCAA Outdoor Championships

BALTIMORE -- Coppin State's Jibri Victorian will compete in the 400m hurdles at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon beginning on Wednesday (June 5).

The semifinals of the 400m hurdles will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m., while the finals will be held on Friday (June 7) at 7:40 p.m.

Victorian will be competing in the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the third consecutive year and is the first CoppinState male athlete to make three appearances at the NCAA's. Diana Pitts qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters in 1992, 1993 and 1994.

Victorian enters the semifinals with the 18th-best time from the East and West Preliminary Championships. He posted a time of 51.54 during both the opening round and the quarterfinals at the East Preliminary Championships.

Jeffrey Gibson of Oral Roberts has the top time from the Preliminary Championships as he won the West championship in a time of 49.80.

Victorian's time of 50.77, which he posted in winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship in the hurdles, ranks as the 16th-fastest time in the nation this season.

Victorian will be attempting to become just the second Coppin State male to earn All-America honors. Steve Delice was named an All-America selection in the 400 hurdles in 2007.

NSU's Bell, Nkrumah, Taylor to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Championships this Week

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State track and field trio of Champagne Bell, Keith Nkrumah and James Taylor will participate beginning this Wednesday in the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Bell will participate in the women’s long jump on Wednesday beginning at 7:15 p.m. ET. The trials and final will both be contested that evening. Taylor runs in the 200m semifinals which start at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, and Nkrumah races in the 110m hurdles beginning at 8:20 p.m. the same night.

This is Bell’s second trip in three years to the national outdoor meet. Taylor, who was a second-team All-America performer in the 200 earlier this year during indoor season, is making his first appearance at the outdoor nationals. Nkrumah is competing in his specialty for the second consecutive year.

The three entries in this week’s meet are the second-most for the NSU track and field programs at a Division I outdoor national championship meet. The Spartans had four competitors, including Bell, at the 2011 championship.

DSU’s CARTER TO COMPETE IN NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dover, Del. - Delaware State's Ryan Carter will compete against some of the nation’s best sprinters for All-America honors and a national championship this weekend.

Carter will run in the 200m dash competition at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon. He qualified for the national championships with a 12th place time of 20.83 seconds in the NCAA East Regional Preliminary last month.

The national championship appearance caps off a stellar year for Carter, who captured the Mid-Eastern 200 and 400m dash championships this spring.

Carter also qualified for 2013 NCAA Indoor National Championships and was a member of the Hornets’ NCAA Outdoor East Regional qualifying 1600m relay team.
