B-CU's Stoute To Represent BVI At CAC Championships In Mexico

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman junior track & field athlete Keron Stoute has been selected by the British Virgin Islands Athletics Association to represent Team BVI at the 2013 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Championships, July 5-8, in Morelia, México.

Born in the British Virgin Islands and hailing from Manchester, Conn., Stoute will represent his home territory in the high jump, bringing in a career mark of 2.06m (6-09.00 ft.), attained at the  Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

A junior college All-American at Central Arizona College before joining the Wildcats, Stoute earned BVI Most Outstanding Men's Open Field Athlete honors in 2010 and is in high consideration for the territory’s Collegiate Performer of the Year Award for his performances this season.

Stoute earned a MEAC Championship for the Wildcats in the indoor heptathlon this winter, netting him Co-Outstanding Field Performer accolades at the MEAC Indoor Championships. He became just the second BVI athlete to breach 6,000 points in the decathlon in March, falling just 540 points shy of a BVI national record.

The finals for the high jump at the CAC Senior Championships are set for 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.

Stoute is the second Wildcats athlete to compete in the games in recent years, with Ronnie Ash earning bronze in the 110m hurdles as part of Team USA in 2008.

Stoute also becomes the second Wildcats athlete to compete for B-CU in the 2013 postseason, with freshman sprinter Tristie Johnson competing in the 200m at the World University Games, July 7-12, in Kazan, Russia, representing USA Track & Field.
