UMES’ Guion-Firmin Finishes In Top Eight Of NCAA Finals
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Track and
Field team had two runners compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association
Championships June 7. Lenora Guion-Firmin and Ackeem Smith both ran in their
respective events, with Guion-Firmin running in the 400m finals and Smith running in the
110m hurdles on Friday.
Smith ran a 13.71-second time in the hurdles during the preliminary race in Greensboro,
North Carolina to advance to the NCAA semifinals in Eugene, Oregon. Smith finished
17th in the hurdles with a time of 13.97 seconds.
Guion-Firmin finished in the top eight from the semifinals to advance to the finals round
of the 400m dash. She ran a 52.59-second finish in the event for UMES, and finished
seventh.
Guion-Firmin was a three-time NCAA All-American, and has garnered four individual
records in both indoor and outdoor track and field.
