Three Individuals, Lady Pirates' 4x400 Qualify For NCAA Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Hampton University track & field student-athletes, as well as the Lady Pirates 4x400-meter relay squad, advanced to the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminary at the Irwin Belk Track.

Trey Holloway will be the Pirates’ lone representative at the NCAA meet, after advancing in the 110m hurdles with a 13.81 to place him ninth in the semifinals. Holloway also ran a season-best 13.77 in the preliminary heats.

Le’Quisha Parker qualified in the 200m dash after running a 23.54 to finish ninth in the semifinals, while Benita Taylor qualified in the 800m run with a school-record 2:05.28 in the semifinals.

Parker and Taylor were also on the 4x400m relay squad that ran a 3:35.69 to come in sixth and qualify for the NCAA meet.

Emmy Fraenk and Malekah Holland were also on that squad.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.

Lady Bears 4X100 Relay Team Advances to NCAA Championship

 

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Morgan State women’s 4X100 relay team placed 11th overall on Saturday at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round at Irwin Belk Track and advanced to the NCAA Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Ore. on June 5-8. This will be the second consecutive year that the relay team has advanced to the NCAA Championship.

 

The squad of Britney Wattley, Charisma Green, Teyanna Green and Ekundayo Sogbesan ran a season-best time of 44.76 to place fourth in their heat. The University of Alabama-Birmingham ran a time of 44.81 to claim the 12th and final spot away from fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Norfolk State, who finished 13th with a time of 44.91. Only the top 12 relay teams advance to the NCAA Championship.

 

Ranita Mealer finished 19th overall on Saturday in the shot put with a toss of 50-3 ¼, which was good for fourth in her flight.

 

On Thursday, Teyanna Green finished 42nd in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.76.

 

Ekundayo Sogbesan, who was returning to the track for the first time, since missing two of the previous three meets due to injury, placed 45th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.95.

 

Morgan State's Davis Places 23rd In Javelin At NCAA Regional

 

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Morgan State's Keith Davis placed 23rd in the javelin at the NCAA East Regional at North Carolina A&T's Aggie Stadium this weekend. Davis was the only competitor for the MSU men's track & field program at the regional meet.

 

Davis concluded his season by placing 23rd out of 48 competitors with a toss of 63.15m, which was good enough for 3rd place in his flight.

 

The top-12 finishers advanced to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8.

 

Davis' longest throw of the season was a 64.31m toss at the Duke Invitational on April 5.
