NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman junior La’Quan Howard and Florida A&M senior Kinnesha Jones were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week for meets during the week of February 25-March 4, while Bethune-Cookman senior Darnell Washington and Florida A&M junior Nakia Linson were named the MEAC Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Howard (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla., Jumps) won the men’s triple jump at the UNF Spring Break Invitational with a jump of 48-02.00 ft. (14.68m). His jump leads the MEAC and ranks third in the nation for the event.
Jones (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jumps) had a jump of 18-10.50 ft. (11.98m) to win the women’s triple jump at the UNF Spring Break Invitational and grab the top spot in national rankings. Jones also finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18-00.50 ft. (5.50m).
Washington (Sr., Petersburg, Va., Sprints) captured gold in the men’s 100m dash at the UNF Spring Break Invitational with a time of 10.71, which leads conference standings. He also ran a 22.44 in the 200m dash to place sixth.
Linson (Jr., Tucker, Ga., Sprints) ran a leg of the 4x100m relay to help the Lady Rattlers win the event (46.61). She also grabbed second-place finishes in the 100m dash (11.82) and the 200m dash (24.32).
Other Top Performers:
Dolphurs Hayes (SSU) cleared 15-00.00 ft. (4.57m) in the men’s pole vault to finish second at the Savannah State Relays.
Tristie Johnson (B-CU) ran a 11.81 in the 100m dash at the UNF Spring Break Invitational.
Rajeanna Jarrett (SSU) jumped 18-03.25 ft. (5.57m) to win the women’s long jump at the Savannah State Relays.
