Victorian, Dorsey, Relay Capture Victories for Coppin State
BALTIMORE -- Coppin State's Jibri Victorian and Jeremy Dorsey and the Eagles 4x400-meter relay team each claimed victories on Saturday at the UMBC Big Dawg Invitational.
Victorian captured the open 400 meters and Dorsey won the 100 meters, while the team of Victorian, Rosen Daniel, Donell Taylor and Dorsey won the 4x400 relay.
Victorian finished the 400 meters in 49.72 and narrowly edged Justin Hicks of Bucknell who finished in 49.73 for the top spot.
Dorsey captured the 100 meters in a time of 10.78, while Dennison Long of UMBC placed second in 10.81.
The 4x400-meter relay team finished first in a time of 3:17.69.
In addition to the victories in the 100 meters and the 4x400 relay, Dorsey also posted a third-place finish in the 200 meters in a time of 22.20.
The Coppin State 4x100-meter relay team of Alaric Coker, Dorsey, Victorian and Shane Green finished second overall in 42.01, which meets the IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championship qualifying mark.
Julian Coiner and Daniel each recorded top-five finishes for the Eagles. Coiner was fourth in the high jump by clearing 6-3.25, while Daniel placed fourth in the 200 meters in 22.22.

NCCU's McCoy Earns First-Place Finish For Fourth Straight Meet
RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina Central senior sprinter Ashley McCoy finished first in the 100-meter dash this weekend as the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Raleigh Relays on March 29-30 in Raleigh, N.C.
McCoy’s time of 11.77 seconds was the best time of the meet, ahead of 118 runners who competed in the 100m dash.
This marked the fourth straight meet that McCoy has finished first in either the 100m or 200m dash since the beginning of the outdoor season.
At the Coastal Carolina Invitational (March 8-9), McCoy finished the 200m dash with a time of 24.41, while improving in the following competition, Wake Forest Open (March 15-16), with a time of 23.58.
At the LeRoy T. Walker/Lee Calhoun Invitational (March 23), McCoy finished the 100m dash with a time of 11.94.
In addition, La’Creesha Gore finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.47 for the Lady Eagles.
On the men’s side, the Eagles earned two top-10 finishes.
Senior Phillip Barren finished the 200m dash in seventh place with a time of 21.69, marking a personal-best for the senior.
Nana Atakora-Bediako completed the triple jump in fourth place, leaping 14.99m (49’ 2.25”).

Lady Tigers Top Relays At Winthrop Invite
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Savannah State relay teams led the Lady Tigers with first and second place finishes at the Winthrop Invitational, hosted by Winthrop University, in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Saturday.
The team of Aleah Hordges, Chavonta Roberts, Jazy Seay-Blane and Dominique Givance placed first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:54.40. In the 4x100 meter Asia Stinson, Hordges, Jade Bentley, and Jaymi White finished second with a time of 46.51.
Stinson led the Lady Tigers in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. The sophomore placed second in the 100m with a time of 11.64, and second in the 200m with a time of 24.59. Bentley followed her teammate with a fourth place finish in the 100m and a time of 12.17, and eighth in the 200m with a time of 26.22.
In the 400m dash, Hordges placed second with a time of 56.34, followed closely by Seay-Blane in third with a time of 57.35.
Elsewhere on the track, Givance finished 10th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.53. In the 1500 meter run, Mariah Davis finished with a time of 5:15.09 in 15th place.
In the field, sophomore Rajeanne Jarrett led the Lady Tigers with a third place finish in the triple jump and distance of 11.64m/38-04.00. Alysia Potts finished 10th in the pole vault with a distance of 2.75m/9-00.25.
Chantia Taylor finished the high jump event with a distance of 1.50m/4-11.00 in 10th place. Freshman Alexandrea Childs placed 16th in the discus throw with a distance of 32.87m.
In the women’s heptathlon White led SSU with a fourth place finish and a total score of 4,012. Jarrett finished in fifth with a score of 3,806, followed by Taylor in seventh with a 3,623.
Relay Teams Lead SSU At Winthrop Invite
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Savannah State relay teams garnered two first place finishes in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina over the three day event that ended on Saturday.
The relay team of Kenshard Hamilton, Chazwyn Price, Cameron Hall and Darrius Baker topped the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 40.85. In the 4x400m, the team of Price, Brandon Davis, Hall and Lemaar Shakir placed first with a time of 3:17.38.
Hamilton led the Tigers in the 100 meter dash with a first place finish and a time of 10.50 after qualifying with a 10.84. Baker followed in fifth place with a time of 10.68, and topped the 200m dash with a second place finish and a time of 21.49.
In the 400m, Price placed third with a time of 48.73 after qualifying with a time of 49.58. Hall topped the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.03 and a second place finish, followed by Shakir in fourth place with a 14.74.
Shakir placed first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.01, followed by Felton Chinn in third with a 54.18.
Kristopher Ballou placed eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.86, and 13th in the 1500 meter run with a 4:09.05.
In the field, freshman Dolphurs Hayes led the Tigers with a fifth place finish in the pole vault and a distance of 4.25m/13-11.25. Derrick Akins placed seventh in the discus throw with a distance of 42.70m/140-01.

State Track Teams Record One First, Several Other Top Finishes at North Florida
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State track and field teams recorded one first and several other top finishes at the North Florida Invitational at Jacksonville Saturday.
The SC State men led the way with one first place, three runner-ups and two third-place finishes. The Lady Bulldogs had four top finishes, including a fourth and two fifth-place showings at the meet.
The Bulldogs’ Seymour Walter captured first in the 800 meters in a time of 1:52.26; Barry Bethea was second in the 400 meters in a clocking of 48.14; Xavier Molette had runner-up finishes in both the shot put (14.74m) and discus (51.27m); and Donta Young was third in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.21) and the 400-meter hurdles (53.97).
Other top finishes for the SC State men included Anthony Britt, fourth in the discus (47.72m) and fifth in the shot put (14.14m), and Chris Bonner, seventh in the high jump (1.90m).
Top finishes for the SC State women included a fourth-place by the 4x100-meter relay team of Nikkia Jefferson, Antavia Owens, Tahje Whittley and Yazmin Hicks in a time of 47:02; fifth-place showings by Sherril McFarlane in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:44.56, and Owens in the 100 meters in a time of 11.97; and a sixth-place showing in the 200 meters by Hicks in a clocking of 24.78.

HAMPTON TRACK COMPETES IN TWO SEPARATE MEETS
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in two separate meets this past weekend, taking part in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va. on Friday and Saturday.
Sulaiman Fareed picked up the only event title of the weekend, taking the shot put title at the Fred Hardy Invitational with a season-best and school-record mark of 16.33 meters (53 feet, seven inches).
Hampton swept the top three spots in the shot put, with Evan Henderson in second with a mark of 14.51 meters (47 feet. 7.25 inches) and Javan Gray coming in third at 14.32 meters (46 feet, 11.25 inches).
Gray also came in fourth in the javelin at 58.12 meters (190 feet, eight inches).
Kemal Jarso ran a school-record 32:27.80 in the 10,000-meter run to come in second.
Xavier Fraction came in seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 10:00.74.
The Pirates finished third in the 4x400-meter relay invitational at the Texas Relays after turning in a season-best 3:08.18. A separate 4x400 squad came in 11th in the preliminaries of the university race with a time of 3:13.73.
Hampton also ran a 3:25.60 in the 1,600 sprint medley to finish seventh in the men’s race.
Nichelle Harris turned in the Lady Pirates’ best individual effort in Richmond, Va., coming in second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:29.57. Devyn Thompson was fourth in the 3,000-meter run after turning in a season-best 10:21.66.
Teiara Denmark tied for third in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 12.08 meters (39 feet, 7.75 inches). She was also part of the Lady Pirates’ 4x100-meter relay squad that came in third with a time of 47.18.
Cydney Robinson was sixth in the 800-meter run with a season-best 2:14.93.
The Lady Pirates finished sixth in the 4x200-meter relay invitational at the Texas Relays after running a 1:37.01, while also coming in seventh in the 1,600 sprint medley with a 3:57.91.

Bears Perform Well at Big Dawg Invitational and Raleigh Relays
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Morgan State men's track & field team posted seven top-10 finishes at the Big Dawg Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
DeAndre Robinson led the Bears on the track by posting a seventh place finish with a 1:54.78 in the 800m run, followed by teammates Harold Lamour in 10th place (1:55.12) and Nicolas Smith in 11th (1:59.21).
Lamour also recorded an eighth place finish in the 400m dash, running a 49.45.
Kenyon Wright placed second with a 1.91 in the high jump.
Rana Isahq had a solid day in the field events by recording a fifth place finish in the shot put with a 13.99m, and had a 45.26m toss in the javelin to land seventh place.
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Morgan State men's track & field team posted five top-10 finishes at the annual Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State at Paul Derr Track.
Aaron Covington recorded an eighth place finish in the 400m dash, running a personal best 47.70 and qualified for the IC4A Championships. He later teamed up with Nigel Thompson, Rolando Reid and Christian Boateng to capture fourth place in the 4x100 meter relays with an IC4A qualifying time of 40.70.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the Bears foursome of Aaron Covington, Brandon Hairston, Evan Johnson and Rolando Reid finished in 10th place with a time of 3:13.94.
Aaron Strums placed 15th with a 53.92 in the 400m hurdles.
Keith Davis and Jefferson Butler Ied the Bears in the field events. Davis recorded a second place finish in the javelin throw with a personal best 63.73m, while Butler's toss of 15.59m in the shot put landed him a ninth place finish.

Spartans Women Repeat With Second Straight Relay Win
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Led by a second straight win in the 4x100 relay, Spartan sprinters enjoyed several season-best performances on Saturday for the NSU women’s track and field team at the Virginia Invitational hosted by U.Va.
A week after winning the 4x100 relay at William & Mary, the Spartans repeated the feat at U.Va. NSU made one slight change to its quartet over the previous week, with Brittney McCants joining mainstays Qua’Nesha Wallace, Champagne Bell and Torie Cunningham. The group posted a season-best time of 45.92 seconds to take the win.
Wallace, McCants and Bell also clocked season-best times in their respective individual events. Bell ran a time of 55.04 seconds to take third place in the 400 meters. Wallace was fourth in the 100 meters in 11.93 seconds, and McCants placed fourth in the 200 meters in 24.74 seconds.
In the middle distance events, Rachel Webb also had a solid performance. Webb was ninth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4 minutes, 45.80 seconds, some seven seconds faster than her time last weekend at W&M.
Jazmine Vaughan rounded out the Spartans’ efforts on the track with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (14.75 seconds).
In the field events, Kiara Howell kept the season-best theme going by recording a pair of her own in the throws. Howell placed fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 47 feet, 3.75 inches. She also placed fifth in the discus with a top heave of 150-11.
Kaydianne McKenzie also had a pair of top-five finishes in field events. McKenzie was fourth in the triple jump (season-best 37-8.75) and fifth in the long jump (16-11.5).

UMES Women Finish Third, Men Take Fifth in Virginia Invitational
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. —It was 1963 when Alberto Santio set the University of Maryland Eastern Shore record in the discus. Dillon Simon broke the 50-year record Saturday in the Virginia Invitational. Simon tossed a 53.65-meter discus to set the Hawks new record. Teammate Lexia Robinson tied her record from the 2012 conference championship in the discus with a 43.91-meter toss.
Imani Cox and Robinson finished third and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Cox tossed a 14.82-meter put, while Robinson finished with 14.05-meter toss. Cox finished seventh in the discus throw.
In the sprint events, Gayon Evans, Lenora Guion-Firmin and Petra Kubesova each won gold in their respective events. Evans ran an 11.70-second time in the 100-meter dash and finished second in the 200-meter. Teammate Guion-Firmin posted a 23.60 in the 200-meter dash, and ran 53.40 in the 400-meter dash.
Javon Spencer ran a 10.76 in the 100-meter dash finals, while teammate Hackeem Harris finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.01 seconds. Aaron Chatman had the Hawks’ best finish in the 400-meter dash with time of 48.94.
Kubesova posted a 10:41.61 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to mark both a school record and gold medal finish. Emilie Ducados posted a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:12.26, while Shantol Hemley finished 2:13.60.
Nancy Yao marked a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.86 meters, while Romeika Jackson finished with a 5.12-meter long jump finish. Dwayne Powell and Denvil Ruan marked silver medal finishes in the long jump and triple jumps, respectively. Powell finished with a distance of 6.86 meters, while Ruan marked a 14.34 in the triple jump.
Both Hawks relay teams ran well, finishing second in the 4x400-meter and 4x100-meter relay events. The men’s 4x100-meter team of Ackeem Smith, Javon Spencer, Marcus Wallace and Nyls Nubret finished in a time of 40.98. The women’s 4x400m team of Ducados, Evans, Guion-Firmin and Annis Mars posted a time of 3:43.33.
