MEAC Announces Track and Field Honors

Norfolk State freshman Jamarian Bates and Maryland Eastern Shore junior Imani Cox were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week for meets during the week of March 11-17, while Savannah State freshman Kenshard Hamilton and Florida A&M junior Nakia Linson were named the MEAC Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.  

Bates (Fr., Ettrick, Va., Jumps) was third overall and second among collegiate finishers at the Shamrock Invitational. He leaped 7.17m (23-06.25 ft.) at the event.

Cox (Jr., Plainfield, N.J., Throws) won the shot put event at the Wake Forest Open with a 15.42m toss. She also finished among the top five in the discus with a 42.30m throw.

Hamilton (Fr., Savannah, Ga., Sprints) finished in second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.47 at the Shamrock Invitational. He was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that finished in second in 41.17. As a team the Tigers were second overall out of 25 competing teams.

Linson (Jr., Tucker, Ga., Sprints) was second in the 100m (11.49) and 200m (24.32) at the Georgia Relays. She also ran the second leg of the 4x100 relay team that took home the silver with a time of 45.97.

Other Top Performers:

Kiara Howell (NSU)
posted two top 10 finished in throwing events at the Shamrock Invitational.

Kinnesha Jones (FAMU)
was second in the long jump with a 6.07m (19-11.00 ft.) and third in the triple jump with a 12.37m (40-07.00 ft.) leap at the Georgia Relays.

Troy Pollard (FAMU) finished among the top 15 in the 200m (22.10) and 400m (47.13) at the Miami Invitational.

Ashley McCoy (NCCU) won the 200m dash at the Wake Forest Open in 23.58 at the Wake Forest Open.


Ackeem Smith (UMES)
was second in the 110m hurdles in 14.28 at the Wake Forest Open.
