MEAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Honors

Norfolk State freshman Jamarian Bates and Coppin State senior Alexis Easterling were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week.  Bethune-Cookman sophomore Ricy Brown was named the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week while Norfolk State sophomore Torie Cunnigham and Coppin State sophomore Melissa Caddle were named Co-Women's Track Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday. 

Bates (Fr., Chester, Va., Jumps) was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump at the Gene Anderson Invitational, placing second with a jump of 23-0.0 ft. (7.01m). He also finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 47-0.25 ft. (14.33m).

Easterling (Sr., Manhattan, N.Y., Jumps) tied the Coppin State school record for the long jump, winning the event at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. Her jump of 19-11.00 ft. (6.07m) top a  field of 71 competitors and leads the MEAC in the event this year.

Brown (So, Clearwater, Fla., Long Distance) won the gold in the 800m run at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, posting a time of 1:53.51. The time is the sixth fastest time in the MEAC this season.

Cunningham (So., Richmond, Va., Sprints) captured the gold and aided her team to the top three finishes in the 200m dash at the Gene Anderson Invitational in 25.38. She also earned a second place finish in the 60m dash with a personal-best time of 7.64.  

Caddle (So., Brooklyn, N.Y., Sprints) set the school record in the 400m with a 53.08, which leads the MEAC and is fifth in the NCAA, in the preliminaries at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. She also broke the school record in the 60m dash by running a 7.46 in the preliminary round. She placed second in the finals of the 400m (53.32) and seventh in the finals of the 60m dash (8.11).

Other Top Performers:

Kadian Dunkley (B-CU) ran a time of 17:32.06 to finish 10th in the 5,000m run at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.

Teyanna Green (MSU) placed fourth in the 200m dash at the Armory Collegiate Invitational with a time of 25.15.

Lenora Guion-Firmin (UMES) completed the Armory Collegiate Invitational 400m dash in 53.38 to place fourth.

Cameron Hall (SSU) earned third place finishes in the 60m hurdles (8.03) and the 4x400m relay (3:56.16) at the Hilton Garden Invitational.

Ranita Mealer (MSU) had a toss of 46-1.25 ft. (14.05m) to place 20th in the shot put at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.

Sasha Smallwood (B-CU) leaped 12-01.50 ft. (3.70m) to finish among the top ten in the pole vault at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.

Damian Smith (NSU) ran a 21.42 in the 200m and 48.17 in the 400m to win gold in both events at the Gene Anderson Invitational.

Emmanuel Stewart (MSU) threw a personal best toss of 61-10.50 ft. (18.86m) to finish fifth in the weight throw at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.

Asia Stinson (SSU) finished fifth in the 60m dash in 7.63 at the Hilton Garden Invitational. She also ran a 25.52 in the 200m dash to finish ninth.

Keron Stoute (B-CU) leaped 6-08.25 ft. (2.04m) in the high jump at the Armory Collegiate Invitational for a top five finish.

Andre Walsh (UMES) crossed the finish line of the 200m dash in 21.38 for a fourth-place finish at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
