SC State Track & Field Athlete Seymour Walter Honored During ROTC Awards Ceremony

Orangeburg, S.C.-SC State track and field student-athlete Seymour Walter was honored Thursday, Feb. 28, during the 2013 Army ROTC Spring Awards Ceremony.  Walter, a junior middle distance runner from St. Croix, VI, received two awards during the ceremony, which recognizes the cadets in the Bulldog Battalion that met or surpassed academic and performance standards during the fall 2012 semester.

Walter was awarded the Gold Medal Athlete Ribbon which is presented to a cadet who scores 290-to-300 on the Army Physical Fitness Test (PT Test).  Walter earned a score of 299 on the PT Test.  He also received the ROTC Honors Ribbon which is presented to Cadets with a cumulative 4.00 GPA in all military sciences courses.

Walter's accolades on the track include most recently finishing fifth in the 800 meter at the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held February 14-16.  He also holds the Lorry H. Dawkins (SC State) Facility record in the 800 meters (1:50.62) which he set during the 40th Robert "Jet" Johnson Relays last March.  His personal best time in the 800 meters is 1:49.19 which he set last summer.
