MEAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Weekly Honors

Norfolk State freshman Jamarian Bates and Coppin State senior Alexis Easterling were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, while Norfolk State junior James Taylor and Hampton senior Benita Taylor were named the MEAC Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Friday. 

Jamarian Bates (Fr., Chester, Va., Jumps) recorded a season-high mark of 46-01.50 ft. (14.06m) at the Hokie Invitational. He also finished in second place in the long jump with a leap of 23-00.75 ft. (7.03m). His mark in the long jump is among the top ten in the MEAC in the event this season.

Alexis Easterling (Sr., Manhattan, N.Y., Jumps) scored 3,563 points to capture the gold in the pentathlon at the Ursinus Pentathlon Invitational. Her point total was a personal record that ranks second in Coppin State history and leads the MEAC this year.  She also competed at the Thomson Invitational and finished among the top ten in the high jump (5-1.00 ft.).

James Taylor (Jr., Suffolk, Va., Sprints/Relay) won the 400m in 47.15 at the Hokie Invitational. His 400m time leads the MEAC this season and ranks among the top ten in the nation. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay team that finished in second place with a time of 3:12.25.

Benita Taylor (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa., Mid/Relay) set a school record in the 800m run with a time of 2:07.86 at the Penn State National Invitational. Her time earned a first place finish and ranks 12th in the nation this season.  She also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay team that won and set a school record with a time of 3:40.03.

Other Top Performers:

Melissa Caddle (CSU) set a school record and finished in third in the 200m in 24.30 at the Penn State National Invitational.

Jeremy Dorsey (CSU) ran a school record time of 8.10 in the 60m hurdle prelims at the Penn State National Invitational.

Garrett Ellis (B-CU) won the 400m in 50.05 at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational.

Edose Ibadin (Hampton) won the 800m run in 1:51.1, setting a school record, and anchored the 4x400m relay that finished in third in 3:11.47.

Kenshard Hamilton (SSU) captured the gold in the 55m dash with a time of 6.41 at the USC Gamecock Indoor Open.

Christian Harrison (NCAT) won the 1,000m run and set a school record with a time of 2:28.18.

Lenora Guion-Firmin (UMES) finished in first in the 200m dash in 23.90 at the NYRR Collegiate Night at the Armory.

Ashley Ivey (FAMU) recorded a season-best mark of 12.10m (39-08.50 ft.) in the triple jump at the Rod McCravey Memorial Invitational.

Tristie Johnson (B-CU) won the 55m dash in 7.07 and the 200m with a time of 24.54 at two separate meets last week.

Dynasty Jones (FAMU) was among the top ten finishers in the 400m dash with at time of 55.60 at the Rod McCravey Memorial Invitational.

Deidra Jordan (B-CU) earned second place finishes in both the high jump (5-03.25 ft.) and the pentathlon (2,986 points) at the USC Indoor Open and Jimmy Carnes Invitational.

Dennis McGee (FAMU) finished in the top 25 in the shot put with a throw of 13.85m (45-05.25 ft.).

Kaydianne McKenzie (NSU) jumped a personal-best mark of 11.95m (39-02.50 ft.) in the triple jump at the Hokie Invitational.

Troy Pollard (FAMU) recorded a personal best time of 47.73 in the 400m dash at the Rod McCravey Memorial Invitational.

Ekundayo Sogbesan (MSU) was second the 500m run with a time of 1:13.73.

Ajada Thomas (MSU) won the triple jump title at the BU Terrier Classic with a leap of 38-10.25 ft.

won the 200m dash in 22.01 at the NYRR Collegiate Night at the Armory Invite.

Jimel Wright (B-CU) finished in third place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.45m (47-05.00 ft.).
