NORFOLK, Va., December 12, 2013 – Hampton seniors Je’Von Hutchinson and Breana Norman were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week. Morgan State senior Emmanuel Stewart and Norfolk State sophomore Kiara Howell were named the MEAC Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.
Hutchinson (Sr., Boynton, Fla., Sprints) won the 400m dash, 600m and ran a leg of the 4x400 relay at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational and Christopher Newport Holiday Open Invitational. He captured first place at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational in the 400m, with a time of 48.99. At the Christopher Newport Holiday Open Invitational, Hutchinson claimed the top spot in the 600m in 1:19.91, and placed first in 3:18.77 in the 4x400 relay with his teammates.
Norman (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va., Hurdles) captured gold in the women’s 60m hurdles at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational (8.68) and Christopher Newport Holiday Open Invitational (8.49).
Stewart (Sr., Trinidad, W.I., Weight Throws) placed second in the weight throw, posting a toss of 18.12m, at the Navy Invitational. He also captured first with a toss of 17.67m at the Princeton New Year’s Invitational.
Howell (So., Chesapeake, Va., Weight Throws) had a throw of 13.90m (45-7.25 feet) in the women’s shot put and 15.29m (50-2.00 ft.) in the weight throw to grab first at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational.
Other Top Performers:
Hanna Billups (Howard) won the women’s high jump with a leap of 1.65m and also led off the 4x400 relay at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational.
Roshel Bygrave (NCAT) won the women’s 500m in 1:15.59, and took second in the 300m in 40.07 at the JDL College Kickoff Classic.
Melissa Caddle (CSU) finished third in the women’s 60m dash, with a time of a 7.63, and 24.76 in the 200m at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open Invitational.
Christiana Epps (CSU) placed first in the women’s triple jump (47-11.75 ft.), and fifth in the long jump (18-0.5 ft.) at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open Invitational.
Gayon Evans (UMES) set a school record in the women’s 60m dash by capturing first in 7.34 seconds to break the school mark (held by Monique Hawkins).
Teiara Denmark (Hampton) cleared 6.09m (19-11.75 ft.) in the women’s long jump to claim first at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational and 12.00m (39-4.5 ft.) in the triple jump at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open Invitational.
Chandelic Jackson (FAMU) finished third in the women’s 800m (2:17.06) and the 1-mile run (5:17.75) at the BSC Panther Ice Breaker Invitational.
Sasha Ann Lebert (FAMU) finished in the top three in the women’s weight throw, 16.99m (55-09.00 ft.), and the shot put 12.96m (42-06.25 ft.), at the BSC Panther Ice Breaker Invitational.
Elisha Metto (Howard) clocked in at 9:01.62 to capture first in the men’s 3,000m at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational.
Troy Pollard (FAMU) finished second in the men’s 400M, with a time of 47.53, and ran the first leg of the 4x400m relay with a 47.47 split, at the BSC Panther Ice Breaker Invitational.
Dillon Simon (UMES) set a school record in the weight throw at 16.71m, besting a three-year record, held by Marcus Simon.
Wallace Spencer (Howard) captured the men’s 200m with a time of 22.35, and the 60m hurdles in 8.39, at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational.
Todd Townsend (NCAT) ran 8.17 in the men’s 60m hurdles, and 51.40 in the 400M, to place second at the JDL College Kickoff Classic.
