Morgan State Concludes Day One Of Terrier Invitational
BOSTON, Mass. (Jan. 25, 2013)-The Lady Bears indoor track and field team competed on Day 1 of the BU Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday at the Track & Tennis Center.
Ekundayo Sogbesan placed second in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:13.73 and also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 24.62.Teyanna Green would finish sixth in the 200 with a time of 24.79.
Teyanna Green and Britney Wattley placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the 60 meter dash. Green ran a time of 7.73, while Wattley finished with a time of 7.77.
Nicole Candelaria placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.57 and teamed up Sianna Wynter, Tere Cooley and Charisma Green to help the Lady Bears' 4X400 relay team to a sixth place finish with a time of 3:48.23.
Ajada Thomas captured Morgan State's lone first-place victory of the day. Thomas won the triple jump with a mark of 38-10.25.

Taylor, Nkrumah Star for Spartan Men at Hokie Invitational
BLACKSBURG, Va. - James Taylor and Keith Nkrumah both won individual events, then helped the NSU 4x400 meter relay team run the MEAC's second-best time this season at the Hokie Invitational this weekend at the Rector Fieldhouse.
In his first time running the 400 meters this season, Taylor clocked the MEAC's best time and the 10th-fastest time in the nation this year, cross the finish line in first place in 47.15 seconds. That was more than a full second ahead of runner-up Jonathan McCants of Virginia Tech (48.31).
Nkrumah ran a season-best 60-meter hurdles time of 7.85 seconds to win that event. His time ranks him among the top 20 in the nation and is also the fastest time in the conference.
Taylor, Nkrumah, Damian Smith and Kenneth Smith then teamed to run their best 4x400 time of the year. The quartet crossed the line second in 3 minutes, 12.25 seconds. It is the second-best time in the MEAC and ranks in the top 30 nationally.
Coming off his MEAC Runner of the Week honor for his performance at CNU last week, junior Nathnael Meseret had another productive meet. He won the 5,000 meters in 15:02.74, just ahead of teammate Damtew Adnew (15:03.87). Meseret was also second in the mile (4:19.33).

Spartan Women Post 10 Top-11 Finishes at Hokie Invite
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Brittney McCants and freshman Kiara Howell both finished in the top 10 in two individual events this past weekend to pace the Spartan women's track team at the Hokie Invitational at Rector Fieldhouse.
McCants was fifth in the 60 meters (7.63 seconds) and ninth in the 200 meters (25.17) to highlight a solid showing for the NSU sprinters. Sophomore Torie Cunningham was seventh in the 200 in 24.99 seconds, the best by an NSU female track athlete this season. Junior Champagne Bell was ninth in the 400 meters in a season-best 57.15 seconds.
Howell was 10th in the both the shot put (41-9.25) and weight throw (personal-best 51 feet, 11.75 inches). Also faring well in the field events was sophomore Kaydianne McKenzie, who leapt a personal-best 39-2.5 to place seventh in the triple jump.

Bears Compete At Terrier Invitational
BOSTON, Mass. --The Morgan State men's indoor track and field team returned to action this weekend at the Terrier Invitational. The non-scoring meet was held at Boston University's fixed banked track.
Christian Boateng had another solid performance for the Bears. The sophomore placed fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.21.
Sophomore Aaron Covington ran a 48.83 and placed 11th in the 400m dash, while fellow sophomore Brandon Hairston placed 15th with a time of 49.02.
Morgan's distance medley team placed 5th with a time of 10:21.81, and the 4x400m relay team placed 10th at 3:17.45.
In the field events, freshman Kenyon Wright had a leap of 1.90m that was good enough for 10th place in the long jump. Junior Emmanuel Stewart came in 14th in the shot put with a throw of 14.85m.

Hampton Track Picks Up Four Titles At Penn State
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Hampton men's and women's track & field teams combined to win four events at the Penn State National Invitational, which was held Friday and Saturday at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates each brought home two event titles.
Sophomore Edose Ibadin broke his own school record in the 800-meter run, turning in a 1:51.11 to finish first. He also anchored the Pirates' 4x400-meter relay team, which finished third in the JoePa Invitational with a season-best 3:11.47.
Sophomore Chidi Okezie won the 200-meter dash with a season-best 21.81, while also running on that 4x400 squad.
Ibadin is ranked 36th nationally in the 800-meter run.
Junior Je'Von Hutchison and sophomore Mohamed Labor-Koroma were also on the 4x400 squad, which currently ranks 21st in the nation. Hutchison is also 13th in the nation in the 400-meter dash after running a 47.21 this past weekend, coming in tied for fifth in the invitational race.
Freshman Trey Holloway ran a personal-best 7.92 in the 60-meter hurdles, coming in fifth in the race and ranking 30th nationally.
Senior Benita Taylor won the 800-meter run invitational after turning in a school-record 2:07.86, and she also anchored the Lady Pirates' 4x400-meter relay squad that won the JoePa Invitational in a school-record 3:40.03.
Senior Shanate Boney, sophomore Le'Quisha Parker, and junior Emmy Fraenk were also on that relay squad.
Taylor currently ranks 12th in the nation in the 800-meter run.
Junior Breana Norman is ranked 18th nationally in the 60-meter hurdles after running a season-best 8.33 in the finals on Saturday, finishing fourth.

Florida A&M Competes at Rod McCravy Meet
LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 26) - The FAMU Lady Rattlers had a solid day of performance in a large and talented field at the Rod McCravy memorial Meet at the Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Ashley Ivey's leap of 12.10m (39-08.50) in the triple jump put her atop the category in the MEAC.
Long jumper Kinnesha Jones took first place in the Long Jump (Open division) with a leap of 5.46m (17-11.00).
Triple jumper Ashley Ivey took third place in the event (Invitatonal division) with a leap of 12.10m (39-08.50).
Dynasty Jones ran 55.60 in the 400m dash to take fourth place. RaTeema Stanley took sixth place in a 56.37 time. Middle distance runner Ariel Allen took fifth place in the 800m dash with a time of 2:13.64.
