Former Bethune-Cookman standout Joel Redhead's Olympic debut ended Tuesday morning as the Grenadan failed to get to past the 200 meter dash qualifying round.
Redhead ran a 21.22 and finished eighth in the third heat.
A hip-flexor injury that impeded the final months of his training took its toll.
"I didn't execute. Everyone who saw the race knew that was not me," Redhead said in a phone interview from London. "I wasn't in competition shape. I'm not making excuses because it was a poor performance."
Maurice Mitchell of the United States won the heat in 20.54 and advanced to Wednesday's semifinals.
