Former Hampton Alumna McCorory Advances to Women?s 400m Final

Hampton University alumna Francena McCorory qualified for the women's 400 meter final on Saturday at the 2012 London Olympics.

McCorory, competing for America, ran the second fastest time in heat two with a time of 50.19 seconds in the semifinal round. The top two finishers in each of the three heats plus the next two fastest times advanced.

McCorory, who is making her first appearance in the Olympic games, will attempt to medal on Sunday in the final which is scheduled for a 4:10 p.m. EST start. With a top three finish, McCorory would become Hampton's first former athletic to medal during the Olympics. 

McCorory is a three time NCAA National Champion in the 400 meters. She is coached by Maurice Pierce, Director of Track and Field programs at Hampton.
