Hampton alumna Francena McCorory kicked off her Olympic debut on the first day of the track & field events taking no time to making her presence known. McCorory ran a time of 50.78 in the first round of the women's 400m dash outlasting Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain by two tenths of a second.
McCoroy's time was the fastest time of all three US females in the 400m, with Dee Dee Trotter finishing with a time of 50.87 and Sanya Richards-Ross finishing with a time of 51.78. All three American runners won their heats to advance to the semifinal round.
McCoroy will run in lane six during the second heat in tomorrow's semifinals at 3:05 p.m. EST. In order for McCorory to advance to the 400m finals she has to finish in the top two in her perspective heat. The finals will occur on Sunday, Aug. 5 at 4:10 p.m. EST.
