NASHVILLE, TN-SC State's sophomore 800m/1500m runner Seymour Walter leaped one step closer to qualifying for the Summer Olympics , breaking the US Virgin Islands National Record over the weekend, Saturday at the Music City Distance Carnival (800 Men Invitational) held at Vanderbilt University.
Walter, a native of St. Croix, Virgin Island ran a 1:49.19 breaking the national record held by former Bulldog standout Terry Charles of the Virgin Islands, who set the record in 2008 with a time of 1:49.50.
This is one of several races for Walter as he prepares for the 2012 NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association) Under-23 Championships, held in Mexico later next month, with hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.
