Former Hampton University track & field standout Kellie Wells qualified for Team USA in the women's 100-meter hurdles on Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Wells ran a 12.77, finishing second in the final to Dawn Harper. Lolo Jones came in third to complete the trio heading to London at the end of next month for the Olympics.

Former Lady Pirate Francena McCorory, a Hampton, Va. native, took another step to earning her own spot on Team USA on Saturday, running a 50.55 to post the fastest time in the semifinals of the women's 400-meter dash.

"I need to get ready to work tomorrow," McCorory said. "I won't have a problem; I think I'll be okay. It's going to be a good race tomorrow.

"You'll just have to stay tuned."

The finals of the 400-meter dash will be held on Sunday at 7:35 p.m. EST. The top three finishers will qualify for London, and up to four more runners will be added as possible runners for the 4x400-meter relay.

The Olympic Trials will continue through Monday, then pick up again on June 28-July 1. Sunday's action broadcast live from 7-8 p.m. EST on NBC.
