Former Hampton University track & field standouts Francena McCorory and Kellie Wells won their respective events and advanced on Friday in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
McCorory, who won three NCAA titles while at Hampton, posted the best time of the preliminary heats of the 400-meter dash, recording a 51.11 -- .53 seconds faster than the second-quickest time posted by Dee Dee Trotter.
The semifinals of the women's 400-meter dash will be held on Saturday afternoon, while the finals will be held on Sunday afternoon to determine who will make the trip to London in August. The top three will qualify for London, and up to four more runners will be added as possible runners for the 4x400-meter relay.
Wells posted the top time in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, running a 12.68 - just .18 seconds off her personal best.
Former Lady Pirate Yvette Lewis was 23rd with a 13.24.
