Dixon Taylor Among Hampton’s NCAA Track

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hampton University seniors Reggie Dixon and Benita Taylor reached the NCAA Outdoor Championships in their respective events, thanks to their performances in the NCAA East Preliminary.

Dixon qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100m and 200mr dash, while Taylor advanced from the semifinals in school-record fashion in the 800-meter run.

Dixon ran a 10.26, matching his season best, in the semifinals of the 100m dash, coming in 10th and qualifying for the NCAA outdoor field. He also ran a season-best 20.57 in the semifinals of the 200m dash, coming in eighth.

The Pirates 4x400-meter relay squad qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after turning in a season-best 3:06.76 in the preliminary heats. Freshman Chidi Okezie, freshman Brien Berry, sophomore Je’Von Hutchison and freshman Edose Ibadin made up the squad.

Taylor started by setting a new school record in the 800m run, turning in a 2:06.83 in the preliminary heats. She then bettered that mark in the semifinals, running a 2:06.70 to finish 12th and making the NCAA field.

Taylor anchored the Lady Pirates’ 4x400-meter relay squad that turned in a season-best 3:36.05 in the preliminary heats to advance. She was joined by Cassandra Jones, sophomore Emmy Fraenk and senior Claudia Calder.

Hornets Fail To Qualify For NCAA Championships For First Time Since 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –The Delaware State University men’s 4x400 relay team finished 15th overall Saturday at the 2012 NCAA East Preliminary and failed to qualify for their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships.

The Hornets’ season-best time of 3:07.14 was just over half a second short of making the cut.

Running for DSU were juniors Tyquan Brown, Ryan Carter, Tariq Devore and senior Donte’ Holmes.

Holmes will continue on to the NCAA Championships as he recorded a season-best time of 1:48.33 in Friday’s 800m quarterfinal race.

Nkrumah Punches 1st Ticket To Nationals In 110 Hurdles

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Keith Nkrumah punched a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by placing third in his heat of the 110 meter hurdles.

Nkrumah ran a time of 13.71 seconds, seventh-fastest out of the 27-man field in Saturday’s national quarterfinal round. Nkrumah was third in the third and final heat.

Senior Aramis Massenburg was fourth in heat No. 2, with a time of 13.95 seconds proving not to be fast enough to advance on time alone to the nationals.

Nkrumah teamed with James Taylor, Vincent Brown and Kenneth Smith in the 4x400 meter relay. The Spartans ran a time of 3 minutes, 15.45 seconds, not fast enough to advance to nationals.

Vanessa Henry Advances To NCAA Finals, Three Other Hawks Prepare To Compete In Second Round

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -Vanessa Henry having finished second in her flight with a 16.48-meter toss, will represent the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the shot put NCAA finals.

Cynthia Anais, Lenora Guion-Firmin and Andre Walsh will continue their pursuit for the NCAA Championship as they advance to the second round.

Anais won her heat of the 800m run with her time of 2:05.81. Guion-Firmin also won her event, posting a 52.76 second finish in the 400m dash. Both runners will advance and compete in the top five of their respective events.

Walsh placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.81, and will compete in the top three of his heat in round two. Competing in the 110m hurdles, Ackeem Smith will challenge alongside the college's best athletes in the first round.

Marcus Wallace and Owen Cain will also compete in the first round today in the 200m dash and triple jump, respectively. Cain seeded with a 15.57-meter finish, while Wallace placed with a 21.14-second mark.

Victorian Advances At East Preliminary (Track and Field)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Coppin State junior Jibri Victorian won his heat of the 400-meter hurdles and advanced to the quarterfinals at the NCAA East Preliminary Round Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Victorian finished in a personal-record time of 50.76 who recorded a personal best time for the third straight meet, recorded the second-fastest qualifying time overall.

Coppin State senior Romaine Burke finished 42nd overall in the long jump competition. He opened with a jump of 20-8 and then recorded his best jump of the day on his second attempt when he jumped 22-0.25. He posted a jump of 21-9.50 on his third, and final, attempt.

Dynasty Jones Advances to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Quarterfinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Coach Darlene Moore reached a milestone as the head coach of the Lady Rattlers on Thursday, as her first athlete advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Middle distance runner Dynasty Jones reached the quarterfinals with her performance in the 400m dash.

Nakia Linson missed qualifying in the highly-competitive field in the 100m dash.

Jones ran a 400m time of 53.76. She finished fifth in her heat, but 21st overall for the meet, which ranked in the qualifying times.

Linson performed well, running 11.9 in the NCAA Championship, after running 11.6 in the conference meet. Linson still placed 35th overall for sixth place in her heat.

Carter And Holmes Qualify For NCAA Quarterfinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –Senior Donte’ Holmes and junior Ryan Carter each qualified for quarterfinal action for their performances Thursday during 2012 NCAA East Regional.

Holmes, seeded 11th in Thursday’s 800m, finished third overall with a time of 1:48.89 to qualify for Friday’s quarterfinals. Holmes will compete for a trip to the 2012 NCAA Championships Friday.

Carter qualified for Friday’s 400m quarterfinals as he finished third in Heat Six and 29th overall with a time of 47.12.

The duo will also join juniors Tyquan Brown and Tariq Devore in Saturday’s 4x400 relay. DSU is seeded 10th for the East Prelims and will compete in the Quarterfinals.

Bethune-Cookman's Clarke Qualifies for NCAA National Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman is sending a track athlete Kemar Clarke to the NCAA National Track &Field Championships int the 110m hurdle event.

In the 110m hurdles Quarter-Final, Clarke qualified for the National Championships with a time of 13.86 seconds, logging an 11th place finish. In the preliminary, Clarke was fifth overall with a 13.65.

Jones Qualifies For Her Second Quarterfinal Of The 2012 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Hicks Finishes Just Shy Of Qualifying In The 200 Meters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Alexandria Jones ran a 23.92 to advance to the 200m quarterfinal of the 2012 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary. This is Jones’ second event in which she advanced to the quarterfinal during the prelims.

Junior Yazmin Hicks who finished 28th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.15 was short of advancing to the quarterfinal.

Young Advances in 110 Hurdles at the NCAA 2012 Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Stephens Falls Short in Triple Jump

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--Junior Donta Young finished third in his heat of the 110m hurdles to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA 2012 Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary.

Young ran a personal best of 14.96 en route to advancing. Marcus Stephens fell short in the men’s triple jump, finishing 39th with a jump of 14.41 meters (47-3.50).

Victorian Earns Berth In NCAA Championships (Track and Field)
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coppin State junior Jibri Victorian earned his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 400m hurdles on the strength of a record-breaking performance on Friday.

Victorian finished second in his heat, and second overall, in a school-record time of 50.10 to punch his ticket for the NCAA Championships.

Victorian topped the school record of 50.24. After posting a time of 50.76 in the preliminary round on Thursday, Victorian superseded that mark with his performance on Friday.
