Hawks Ranked Seventh and Eighth In The Mid-Atlantic Region

Princess Anne, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Track and Field team is ranked in the top 10 schools in the mid-Atlantic region. On Wednesday the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association released its weekly rankings from across the country. The UMES men's and women's teams were ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region.

UMES has held a steady position in the rankings each week. The men's team has been ranked as high as fourth in the region. The women have improved two spots since week four to the eighth spot, and held that position completing week six.

Both programs recently competed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships. UMES women placed second, while the men took fourth place. Cynthia Anais set a new meet record in the 800-meter run, and maintained her dominance in the 1,500-meter run. She now holds MEAC records in both events.

Vanessa Henry set a new conference shot put record. Henry has rarely finished outside of first place in the shot put this season. In the Penn Relay Shot Put Championships she placed third. She won the MEAC shot put, taking gold and setting a new record.

UMES will travel to New Jersey to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships May 15-13. The men's 4x100-meter relay team ran and won the event during the Penn Relays.
