Denmark Wins Event Title At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in the 117th annual Penn Relays this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the historic Franklin Field.

Sophomore Teiara Denmark won the Eastern long jump on the women’s side, jumping a season-best 5.95 meters.

Senior Claudia Calder came in third in the college high jump, thanks to a season-best height of 1.75 meters.

The Lady Pirates also took bronze in both the ECAC 4x100-meter relay final (46.36) and the college 4x800-meter run final (8:58.35).

The Pirates finished fifth in the 4x200-meter relay Championship of America men’s final clocking in at 1:24.22. The Pirates also finished eighth in the 4x100-meter relay Championship of America final with a 40.54.

The team members of the 4x 400-meter relay ran a combined 3:14.26 to finish seventh in the IC4A final.

Women's 4x400 Relay Posts Seasonal Best Time at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Coppin State women's 4x400-meter relay team recorded a seasonal-best performance at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field. 

The team of Javonna Dickerson, Sandra Bonga, Shena Brownell and Ashley Bacote finished 44th overall in a seasonal-best time of 3:48.83, which marks the Eagles top time in the 4x400 relay since the 2008 outdoor season.

The Eagles 4x200 team of Bonga, Hafsatu Kamara, Brownell and Dickerson placed 21st overall in a time of 1:40.31.
