SC State Women’s Track & Field Dominate the 40th Robert “Jet” Johnson Bulldog Relays
ORANGEBURG, S.C. --The SC State women’s track & field teams scored 220 points as en route to capturing the 40th Robert “Jet” Johnson Bulldog Relays. Senior Shamire Rothmiller set a new facilities record in the shot put at the Relays which were contested at the Lorry H. Dawkins Track on the campus of SC State.
The Lady Bulldogs captured first place finishes in five-of-nine individual running events and two-of-three relays. Individually Alexandria Jones tool first in the 200 and 400 meter dash; Tamara Smith finished first in the 800 and 1500 meter and Yazmin Hicks won the 100 meter dash. The women’s 4x100 meter relay and the 4x200 meter relay took top prize.
Shamire Rothmiller, who was named the meet Most Outstanding Field Athlete, dominated the field events capturing first in the discus, the javelin and the shot put with a meet record of 14.36. Alexandria Jones and Tamara Smith of SC State along with Shaquavia Porter of Fort Valley State were named the meets Co-Most Outstanding Track Athletes of the meet.

SC State Men’s Track & Field Capture 40th Robert “Jet” Johnson Bulldog Relays
ORANGEBURG, S.C. --The SC State Men’s track & field teams scored 222 points as they captured the 40th Robert “Jet” Johnson Bulldog Relays. Sophomore Seymour Walter set a new facilities record in the 800 meters at the Relays which were contested at the Lorry H. Dawkins Track on the campus of SC State.
The Bulldog men was led by Donta Young, who was named the Co-Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the meet, with a first place finish in the 110 meter hurdles and a second place finish in the 200 meter dash. Senior Marcus Stephens captured first place in the 100 meter dash while Walter finished first in the 800 meter run in a record breaking time of 1:50.62. Bethea was the runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles while Kurgatt finished second in both the 1500 and 5000.
In the field events Senior Noel Facey captured gold in the shot put and third in the discus and sophomore Xavier Molette finished first in the discus with a throw of 45.56 meters.
As a team the men’s 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams finished first and the 4x400 meter team finished second.

Hampton Track Wins Three Titles at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams combined to win three relay titles at the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday at the Paul Derr Track on the campus on North Carolina State University.
The Lady Pirates took both the 4x100-meter relay (45.65) and the 4x400-meter relay (season-best 3:40.18), while the Pirates took gold in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best 40.40 for their lone event title of the weekend.
Freshman Cassandra Jones (Norfolk, Va.) and sophomore Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.) were both on the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay squads - as well as the 4x200-meter relay team that finished second with a 1:37.17.
Senior Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) gave the Lady Pirates their best individual finish of the weekend, running a season-best 1:00.62 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish second. She was also on the 4x400-meter relay squad that took gold.
Sophomore Devyn Thompson (Chicago, Ill.) turned in a third-place effort of her own in Section V of the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 18:33.10. Senior Ermesha Fair (Chesapeake, Va.) also came in third in Section II of the long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters.
Sophomore Larry Ramirez (Pleasantville, N.J.) turned in the best individual finish of the weekend for the Pirates, running a season-best 1:51.56 in the 800-meter run invitational to finish third. Freshman Chidi Okezie (Philadelphia, Pa.) came in fifth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best 46.93.
Senior Devan Clark (Lorton, Va.) set a new school record in the discus throw, tossing it 46.32 meters to break the previous mark of 44.72 meters that he set at the Shamrock Invitational two weekends ago. Clark finished 15th in the discus throw.
The Pirates also took the bronze in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking in at a season-best 3:08.41.
