Lady Pirate Finish Third in Morgan State Legacy Meet

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hampton University women’s track & field team finished third in the Morgan State Legacy Meet, held on Friday and Saturday at Hughes Stadium.

The Lady Pirates Claudia Calder won the women’s heptathlon with 4,876 points, while Teiara Denmark jumped a season-best 5.72 meters to take the long jump.

Calder won the high jump and 800-meter run in the heptathlon.

Hampton took gold in the women’s 4x100-meter relay with a meet-record 3:38.63

Denmark also finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.77 meters, while Benita Taylor came in third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.15.

Sophomore Devyn Thompson ran a 4:47.67 to come in third in the 1,500-meter run. She was also fifth in the 5,000-meter run after clocking in at 18:48.17.

The Lady Pirates ran a 46.16 in the 4x100-meter relay to finish third.

Senior Ermesha Fair tallied 4,407 points to come in third in the heptathlon. Junior Shaquanda Gainey finished fourth with 4,254 points.

Pirates Devan Clark competed in the javelin throw at the New Captains Classic at Pomoco Stadium hosted by Christopher Newport University. He won the event with a mark of 54.86 meters.

Lady Bears Take 2nd At Legacy Meet

BALTIMORE, Md. –The Lady Bears outdoor track and field team over the weekend hosted the 9th annual Morgan State Legacy tack meet and placed second overall under the unexpected great weather that held up until the end at Hughes Stadium on Saturday.

Lady Bears, Britney Wattley, Teyanna Green, Charisma Green, and Ekundayo Sogbesan made up the ‘A’ team that captured first-place in the 4X100 meter relay with a time of 45.43. The same team also finished fourth in the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 3:45.01.

Ekundayo Sogbesan placed second in the 400 meter dash in a personal-best time of 53.71 and came in third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.97, also setting a personal-best. Teyanna Green placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.69. Green was followed by Britney Wattley, who finished fourth in a time of 11.70.

In other events during the Legacy the Lady Bears’ Jeanelle Ovid placed third in the high jump with a distance of 5-05.00. In the women’s 400 meter hurdles Kamice Smalls placed third with a time of 1:03.05.
