Dixion Places Top-Five At USA Indoor National

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Hampton University senior Reggie Dixon competed in the 60-meter dash at the 2012 USA National Indoor Track & Field Championships, which were held Saturday and Sunday at the ABQ Convention Center.

Dixon came in fifth after running a 6.62 – just .02 seconds off his season best and .04 seconds off his personal best (and school record). Dixon has already qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash.

Trell Kimmons ran a 6.45 to win the event; Justin Gatlin came in second with a 6.47.

Dixon Finishes Fourth In NCAA 60-Meter Dash

NAMPA, Idaho – Hampton University senior Reggie Dixon finished fourth in the men’s 60-meter dash at the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, which were held Friday and Saturday at the Jacksons Indoor Track on the campus of Boise State University.

Dixon matched his season-best time with a 6.60 in the final, coming in fourth. Florida’s Jeff Demps successfully defended his title, turning in a 6.56.

Dixon also ran a 6.60 in the preliminaries, clocking in the best time of his heat.

All-America honors are awarded by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Finalists in each event will be named First Team All-Americans, while athletes who finish between eighth and 16th will be named Second Team All-American.

Crawford Breaks School Record in Hurdles at IC4A Championships

BOSTON, Maine -- Kareem Crawford broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2012 IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston University.

Crawford finished sixth overall in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.13, which topped his own school record of 8.17 he set at the Indoor Terrapin Invitational.

He ran a time of 8.22 in the preliminary round and 8.19 in the semifinals.

Bennett finished fifth in the 400 meters in a seasonal-best time of 47.49, while Baskerville was fifth in the high jump by clearing 6-8.25.

The Eagles top finish came in the 4x400 relay where the team of Bennett, Jibri Victorian, Justin Hodge and Rayon Lawrence finished third overall in a time of 3:11.15. The time ranks fourth all-time at Coppin State in indoor history.

Led by Bennett, Coppin State also posted a strong showing in the 400 meters. Bennett placed fifth and Lawrence was eighth in 47.95, which ranks fourth all-time in CSU indoor history. Victorian was ninth in a time of 48.30, which stands as the fifth-best mark in school history.

Epps Wins Triple Jump at ECAC Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Maine -- Coppin State junior Christina Epps won the triple jump at the 2012 ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in record-breaking fashion at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Epps broke her own school record in winning the event. She posted a mark of 42-4.75, which easily bettered her school record of 42-00.75 which she set at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.

Alexis Easterling also scored for the Eagles as she posted an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 18-8.75, which stands as her second best jump of the indoor season.

The Eagles 4x400-relay team of Easterling, Sandra Bonga, Onya Boyd and Ashley Bacote placed 13th in a time of 3:47.66.

Bonga also recorded a 16th-place finish in the 400 meters in 56.63 and an 18th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 16-3.75.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --Lenora Firmin-Guion and Andre Walsh each earned spots in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships in Boise, Idaho March 9-10. The two University of Maryland Eastern Shore student-athletes punched their tickets to the championships after successfully competing and winning events in the IC4A/Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet March 3-4 in Boston, Massachusetts. Vanessa Henry was recognized by the ECAC as the Field Athlete of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region.

In the ECAC Championships, Walsh won the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.89 seconds, marking one of his personal best times. The time also qualified him for the NCAA Championships, while also ranking him number one in the event and two others. He placed third in the 60m dash preliminary with a time of 6.83 seconds.

Firmin-Guion qualified for NCAA competition in the 400m dash with a time of 53.19 seconds. Firmin-Guion finished first in both the 400m and 200m in the ECAC Championships. She sprinted a time of 23.85 in the 200 to take first in the event.

Henry has been a solid fixture for the Hawks as the top finisher in the shot put and weight throw. Henry threw a career-best 16.50-meter shot put this season in the 2012 Great Dane Classic. On several occasions this season Henry has set UMES records in both the shot put and weight throw. Her best weight throw was a 19.73-meter toss which she also set in the Great Dane Classic.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --Lenora Firmin-Guion is the only woman in recent history to make a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Track & Field Final for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Firmin-Guion recently ran and finished in the top 10 of the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash finals.

Firmin-Guion is also the first female NCAA All-American for UMES since the institution became NCAA Division I status. Firmin-Guion ran a 53.30 second 400m dash to place eighth overall. She is the only female student-athlete from a Historically Black College or University to place and qualify for the championships held in Nampa, Idaho.  

She ran slightly faster in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships (March 3-4). Firmin-Guion sprint a 53.19 second 400m dash in the finals to finish first in the event. This is Firmin-Guion's first season with the Hawks, and has been one of the most productive student-athletes for Barrett and UMES.  

Firmin-Guion has also recorded best times in the 60m dash (7.61s), 200m dash (23.85s) and 500m (1:12.11).

USTFCCCA Names Lenora Firmin-Guion and Andre Walsh to 2012 All-America Team

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Two University of Maryland Eastern Shore Indoor Track & Field athletes were named to the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association All-America Team. Lenora Firmin-Guion and Andre Walsh were named to the first and second teams respectively.

Firmin-Guion was named to the USTFCCCA's All-America First Team, her first recognition being at UMES. Recently she finished seventh in the 400-meter dash of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championships (NCAA) on March 9.

She placed eighth in the qualifying heat with a time of 53.30-second finish, and had a finals time of 53.42. Firmin-Guion was the only female student-athlete to represent a Historically Black College and University at the championships. Her best time in the 400m this season is a 53.19 which she ran in the IC4A/ECAC Championships (March 3).

Walsh was recognized as a USTCCCA All-America Second Team nod running an impressive 21.09-second 200m dash to qualify for the NCAA championships. Walsh recorded a season's best 20.89-second first place finish a week earlier in the IC4A/ECAC Championships.

He has recorded a 6.78-second 60m dash time in his freshman year, and finished with two best times in the 400m dash (48.53) and 400m hurdles (50.83). His first place 20.89 second finish this season is his best recorded time in the 200m.
