Wildcat Track Wraps Up in New York

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Wildcats took on the nation’s best this weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Armory Track. Kemar Clarke and La’Quan Howard turned in the highest marks for the Wildcats, competing in the 60m hurdles and triple jump respectively.

Kemar Clarke set a new personal record in the 60m hurdles in winning the second final, placing him ninth overall with a time of 7.81 seconds. La’Quan Howard finished ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.32m (46-11.77 ft.).

Kadian Dunkley took the meet’s first race in winning her section of the 3000m run. Dunkley also came in 24th in the mile run with a time of 5:09.73. In the men’s distance, Ricy Brown came in 22nd in the 800m with a time of 1:55.86.

Stephon Pamilton turned in a time of 48.25 in the 400m dash, earning him a 17th place finish.

Chris Jackson ran a personal record time of 6.89 for 25th place in the preliminaries. Keyona Thomas put up two personal records finishing 15th in 200m with a PR time of 24.94 and 20th in the 60m with a PR of 7.80.

Bison Women and Men’s Team Continue to Improve as They Gear Up for MEAC Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Howard University women’s and men’s track and field teams continued to show improvement at the Vince Brown Invitational Track Meet held at Christopher Newport University.

Sophomore Aaron Harrison run with a time of 15:44 in the 5000-meter.

Senior Jami Hardy won the women's 800-meter run with a 2:15 clocking.

Brianna Jones had a winning distance of 18'9" in the long jump while freshman sensation Giovanni Mowatt took his second qualifying event of the 800 meters in 1:55.

Wallace Spencer took second in the hurdle race (8.14) and 10th in the 60 meters (7.07);  Symone Glover (26.29), Jasmin Selby (26.31) and TeaCarla Wade (26.39), who finished  second, third and fourth, respectively  in the 200 meters;  and Selby (59.29) and Zahra Thomas (59.58), who came in second and third in the 400 meters, respectively.

The women in the 4x400-meter relay placed first (4:00) and second (4:06). The first place quartet included Doriean Broady, Zahra, Danielle Douglas and Jami while the second place unit included Symone Glover, Kaleisha Taylor, Abigail Reid and Kinyatta Cooper.

Dontanika Horton took third in the triple Jump (36'11) while Cymone Hamilton threw 35'7" in the shot put.

On the men’s side, the 4x400-meter relay A team (3:26) of  Michael Houston, Jerod Franklin, Oluwasayie Durogas and Paul Edwards clocked in a time of 3:26 to take third place while and the B team of Hamadi Price, Jewrl  Stroman,  Nasir Young and Peter Gentile took sixth with a time of 3:30.

Epps Breaks School Record in Triple Jump

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Junior Christina Epps broke her own school record in the triple jump leading the Coppin State women's indoor track and field team at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory Track and Field Center.

Epps finished fifth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 42-0.75, which topped her previous school record of 41-5.00 which she posted earlier this season at the Princeton Invitational.

Additionally, Epps finished 18th in the long jump with a seasonal-best mark of 18-0.25. She finished 10th in the 200 meters in a time of 24.87, which ranks fourth all-time in Coppin State history. She also was 29th in the championship section of the 400 meters in a time of 56.20, which stands fifth all-time at Coppin State.

Jennifer Mitchell earned an eighth-place finish in the triple jump in the college section with a jump of 38-7.75.

Two NCCU Relay Squads Pace To Top-10 Finishes

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – The North Carolina Central University men’s 4x200 and 4x400-meter relay squads ran to top-10 finishes during the 2012 New Balance Invitational in Manhattan, N.Y.

The men’s 4x200m relay team obtained a fifth place performance during the 4x200m relay championship. Eagle runners Phillip Barren, Gregory Roper, Jaye Pratt and Brandon Addison completed the event in 1:28.05.

The 4x400m men’s relay team comprised of Jamar Jones, Roper, Barren and Addison earned a seventh place finish during the 4x400m college relay with a time of 3:19.12.

Junior Willie Calvin had the highest solo performance on the weekend for the Eagles tying for 4th place during the men’s high jump championship, with a leap of 2.18m.

On the women’s side, notable finishes included Alexis Sherrill’s 14th place performace during the women’s high jump (1.60m). Amber Brooks’ 25th place effort in the women’s one mile event with a 5:09.96 time and the women’s 4x400m relay team consisting of Ciara Houston, Ashley McCoy, Sararesa Hudson and La’Creesha Gore 18th place finish during the 4x400m run with a time of 3:53.81.

Pirates Finish Tied For 10th At New Balance Collegiate

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hampton University men’s track & field team finished tied for 10th in the team standings of the 2012 New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Armory Track & Field Center.

The Pirates finished with 22 points, tying Duke for the 10th position.

Senior Reggie Dixon placed second a 6.63 in the finals of the 60-meter dash championship race.

The Pirates also finished third in the 4x800-meter relay championship race, thanks to a school-record time of 7:32.47. Hampton’s distance medley relay squad ran a 10:06.92 to finish fourth in the college race.

Freshman Corrin Harris came in sixth in the long jump college event with a mark of 6.45 meters.

The Lady Pirates tied for 19th in the women’s team standings with Long Island, totaling 10 points.

Junior Casaundra Bouldin ran an 8.66 in the 60-meter hurdles college race, finishing tied for third. Sophomore Breana Norman was in the championship race in the 60-meter hurdles, turning in a season-best 8.53 in the preliminary heats.

Sophomore Teiara Denmark jumped 5.67 meters in the long jump college event to come in ninth, and senior Ermesha Fair came in 10th in the college triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.72 meters.
