MEAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Honors

Hampton senior Reggie Dixon was chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, while Savannah State senior Amara Jones was named MEAC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Friday. 

Dixon (Sr., Plainfield, N.J., Sprints) finished first in the preliminaries of the 60m dash at the Penn State National Invite. His season-best time of 6.60, which ranks third in the nation, automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championships. He also placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.15.

Jones (Sr., Freeport, Grand Bahamas, Sprints) won a pair of events at the Clemson Invitational. She set school and personal best times in both the 200m (24.55) and 400m (54.16) dashes. Jones is currently 16th in the nation in the 400m and 31st in the 200m.

Other Top Performers:

Nana Atakora-Bediako (NCCU) won the silver in the men's triple jump (14.79m) at the UNC Invitational.

Ryan Carter (DSU) placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.55 at the Saturday Night at the Armory II.

L'Zerek Chapman (CSU) set the school record in the 60m semifinals with a time of 6.81 and aided the 4x400 relay team to a third place finish at the Penn State Invitational. 

Kadian Dunkley (B-CU) set a school record and captured the gold in the 5000m with a time of 17:01 at the Clemson Invitational.

Calisa Emerson (DSU) placed fourth in the 60m (7.87) and 200m (25.49) at the Saturday Night at the Armory II.

Rueben Israel-McBee (SSU) won the 5000m run with a time of 15:34 at the Clemson Invitational.

Chelsea Lowe (UMES) was first in the pole vault with a leap of 3.35m at the Saturday Night at the Armory II.

Ashley McCoy (NCCU) won the 60m dash with a time of 7.62 at the UNC Invitational.

Breana Norman (Hampton) ran a 7.49 in the 60m dash and 24.45 in the 200m dash to place third in both events at the Penn State National Invitational.  

Shamire Rothmiller (SCSU) was second in the shot put  with a mark of 14.78  and set a school record in the weight throw (17.34m) en route to a fourth place finish at the Gamecock Indoor Open.

Eric Sparkman (SCSU) won the high jump with a leap of 1.96m at the Gamecock Indoor Open.

Josef Tessema (NSU) won and set a school record in the mile with a time of 4:09 at the Penn State National Invitational.
