2nd Place 4x400
Relay, Tessema’s School Record Cap Big Weekend for NSU Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – School records
continued to fall and several more season-best finishes were recorded as the
Spartan men’s track team capped a stellar weekend at the Tyson Invitational on
Saturday.
Josef
Tessema set yet another school record Saturday, this time in the 3,000 meters.
He placed eighth out of a field of 37 runners with a time of 8 minutes, 16.10
seconds. Fellow senior Philemon Kimutai also broke the previous school standard
with his time of 8:17.71 for 10th place Saturday.
Tessema’s
performance marked the third indoor school record set by NSU over the weekend,
following the performances by Sean Holston (400 meters – 46.54) and Keith
Nkrumah (60m hurdles – 7.77) on Friday.
Holston
and Nkrumah teamed with Kenneth Smith and James Taylor to place second in the
4x400 meter relay. The quartet won its heat in a season-best time of 3:10.66.
Nkrumah
placed sixth in the finals of the 60 hurdles in 7.81 seconds.
Also
Saturday, junior John James set an indoor PR in the high jump. He cleared 6
feet, 11 inches and finished 10th in the invitational section of the high jump.
Taylor
ran a season-best time of 21.31 seconds in the 200 meters, tying for ninth
place out of 63 runners.
On
the women’s side, senior Shanneka Claiborne ran a season-best 200 meter time to
cap a strong showing for the Spartan women’s track team. Claiborne placed
fourth in her heat with a time of 24.61 seconds, which is also the best by a
Spartan woman this season.
Junior
Champagne Bell also set an indoor-best with her second-place finish in the long
jump on Friday, and junior Kellen Rutto did likewise in the 5,000 meters.

Green’s Third-Place
Finishes Help Lady Bears Finish 7th
NEW YORK, N.Y. -Morgan State’s
Teyanna Green placed third in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash to
help the Lady Bears track and field team to a seventh-place finish on Saturday
at the Millrose Collegiate Invitational held at the Armory Track & Field
Center.
Green,
who ran a time of 7.71 in the 60 meter dash and 25.09 in the 200 meter dash,
accounted for 12 of the Lady Bears 30 points scored.
Ekundayo
Sogbesan placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.14, while Tyshia
Oliver (58.10) and Kamice Smalls (58.26) took fifth and eighth, respectively in
the 400 meter dash.
Monae
Waller finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.04 and fifth in
the high jump with a leap of 1.70m (5-feet-7-inches).

Robinson, Dascent
Place First At Millrose Invitational
NEW YORK, N.Y.-The Morgan State
men’s track team returned to action on Saturday, as they competed at the
Millrose Collegiate Invitational, held at the Armory Track & Field Center.
Morgan
State scored 27 points and finished tied with cross-town rival Coppin State for
ninth-place out of 20 teams.
Emmanuel
Robinson won the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.03, while Calvin Dascent finished
fifth in a time of 7.09. Christian Boateng ran a time of 7.10 and placed
seventh.
Dascent
would go on to capture the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.36.

Dixon Comes In Third
At The Millrose Games
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Hampton University
senior Reggie Dixon ran in the 60-meter dash at the 105th annual Millrose Games
at the Armory on Saturday at the Armory Track & Field Center, recording a
top-three finish.
Dixon
came in third with a time of 6.70 – which included a 6.25 at the 55-meter
split, which was also the third-fastest in the field.
The
Pirates also finished fourth in the HBCU 4x400-meter relay event, clocking in
at a season-best 3:13.56.

Aggies Perform Well At Brand New Indoor Track And Field
Complex
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The
Aggies of North Carolina A&T competed in Winston-Salem at the brand-new JDL
Fast Track Indoor Track and Field Complex.
The Lady Aggies represented
well in the sprints and throws. Junior
Jenea McCammon earned second place in the women’s 60 meter dash with a time of
7.66, while freshman Felexia Brasswell and sophomore Dotrine Jacobs finished of
eighth and tenth respectively. The
200-meter dash also had three Lady Aggies finish in the top ten, with junior
Jessica Farr placing fourth with a time of 25.74 and sophomore Roshel Bygraves
close behind in fifth. Farr also earned third place in the 400-meter dash with
a time of 57.83.
In the throwing events for
the ladies, junior Sherice Walker finished fifth in the long jump and a second
in the triple jump. Tatianna Clark took fifth in the triple jump.
For the men, red-shirt
sophomore Paris Reddick-Simmons earned sixth place in the men’s 400 meter dash
with a time of 40.66. Senior Steve Liggins had the highest finish for the Aggie
men, earning third place in the men’s 800-meter run.
Freshman Michael Brown
placed sixth in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 6-ft. and .8-in.
Sophomore Rashad Hayes also earned high marks with a fourth place finish in the
men’s long jump with a distance of 22-ft. and 3.6-in.
