Hawks Take Second In Navy Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Indoor Track and Field teams finished second at the Navy Invitational Saturday. Vanessa Henry tossed 15.95 meters in the shot put to finish first, and set the new Wesley Brown Field House record.

Henry set records in the shot put and weight throw, while Imani Cox finished second and set a new personal best of 15.12m in the throw. Chelsea Lowe set a new UMES record inthe pole vault with her vault of 3.30m.

In the sprints, Lenora Firmin-Guion ran a UMES record breaking time of 1:12.11 in the 500m, and finish first in the event. Teammate Kenesha Abrams finished second, and would run a personal best time of 1:15.16.

On the men's side, Jermol Dix finished first in two heptathlon events. Dix threw a 12.68m in the men's shot put and ran 8.47-seconds in the 60m hurdles. Owen Cain jumped a top five finish distance of 6.49m in the long jump. Cain placed first in the triple jump with a 14.82m.

Devin Wynn and Denvil Ruan had top 10 distances of 6.32 and 6.27m, respectively.

Zavior Brown took first with a finishing time of 1:55.15 in the 800m, with Donohue Williams finishing in 1:57.50.

Strong Weekend For Hampton Track & Field In New York 

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams had a strong weekend competing Saturday at the Armory Open Meet.

The Lady Pirates finished second with 113 points, while the Pirates came in third with 87 points in team standings.

The Pirates swept the four sprint events and the Lady Pirates picked up event titles in five different events. 

Dixon took both the 60-meter dash (6.74) and the 200-meter dash (season-best 21.21) on Saturday, while Hutchison ran a season-best 1:03.46 to win the 500-meter dash and freshman Chidi Okezie took the 400-meter dash with a season-best 48.16.

Breana Norman took the 60-meter hurdles title on Saturday after running an 8.56, while Parker ran a 24.54 to win the 200-meter dash and sophomore Cydney Robinson ran a 1:14.71 to win the 500-meter dash.

The Lady Pirates also swept the 4x400-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay titles on Saturday; Fraenk and Parker teamed with juniors Cearha Miller and Casaundra Bouldin to run a 3:47.50 in the 4x400, while Taylor, Robinson, Tate and Malekah Holland ran a 9:20.48 in the 4x800. 

Freshman Brien Berry ran a 6.98 to finish second in Saturday’s 60-meter dash, while also coming in second in the 200-meter dash with a 21.69.

Ermesha Fair jumped 11.68 meters to come in third in the triple jump; Denmark was fifth at 11.65 meters.

Price Paces SSU Men At Carnes Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Chaz Price won the men's 200m and came in second in the 400m race to lead Savannah State at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational held at the Gainesville Sports Commission.

Price had a time of 22.17 in the 200m race and posted a time of 49.40 in the 400m.

Etchien Assinzo won the 800m race with a time of 1:57.61 while Kris Ballou (1:59.56) was 4th.

Eric Plump ( 22.21) finished second in the 200m race while Darrius Baker (22.55) was 6th and Cameron Hall (22.63) was 10th.

Ruben Isreal-McBee was second in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:18.06.

Hall was 4th in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.49 and Quentre Shannon was 6th with a time of 8.04.

The 4x400m relay team finished 3rd, 8th and 9th.

Justin Taylor (6.23m) was 6th in the long jump and Melvin Winfrey (12.31m) was 7th in the triple jump.

Men's Track Concludes Weekend in New York; Simpson Wins Shot Put

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Morgan State men's indoor track and field team was back in action as it took part in the Saturday Night At The Armory I meet, held at the Armory Track & Field Center.

Morgan State would have 13 top 10 finishes and finish fifth with a total of 52 points.

Trey Charles placed fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.03 and also placed seventh in the 200 meter dash at 22.31. 

Jordan Higgs took fifth in the 400 meter dash (48.60) to qualify for the IC4A championships, while DeAndre Robinson placed seventh in the 500 meter dash in a time of 1:05.94.

Emmanuel Robinson came in third in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.36 and Aaron Strums crossed the line in fifth with a time of 8.42.

Simpson Penn was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet-8.25 inches to qualify for the IC4A championships and Roderick Marshall placed eighth in the long jump at 21-feet-2 inches.

NCCU Indoor Track & Field Posts Four Top-Five Finishes At Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior Willie Calvin finished in second place during the men’s high jump event at the Virginia Tech Invitational leading three top-five performances by NCCU during the indoor track & field meet this weekend.

Cavlin, the top performer for NCCU, finished his second place high jump with a jump of 2.18 meters (7 feet, 1.75 inches).

Another NCCU top-five victory was celebrated by the foursome of Greg Roper, Phillip Barren, Snonsio Boye-Weah and Brandon Addison, who finished in fourth place during the men’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:20.47 while Nana Atakora-Bediako also finished in fouth during the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.86m (48 feet, 9 inches).

Rounding out the top-five finishes was freshmen Amber Brooks. Brooks finished the women’s 800m run in fifth place with a time of 2:20.50.
