MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Florida A&M junior Steve Emere was chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, while Coppin State junior Sandra Bonga was named MEAC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Emere (Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Sprints, Triple Jump) won the triple jump and 55m hurdles at the Ed Temple Classic, hosted by Tennessee State. Emere leads the nation with his mark of 52-06 ft. (16.00m) in the triple jump event. 

Bonga (Jr., Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Triple Jump, Long Jump, Sprints) won a pair of events to the Lady Eagles to a third place finish at the Delaware Invitational. Bonga won the triple jump (37-06.50 ft.) and the 400m (59.38). She also placed among the top three in the long jump with a 17-11.50 ft. leap.

Other top performers:

Etchien Assinzo (SSU) captured the gold in the 800m with a time of 1:58.33 and was a member of the 4x400m relay team that earned a first place finish in 3:21.34.

Brandon Baskeville (CSU) cleared 6-10.75 ft. to win the high jump at the Coach O Invite.

Tiara Davis (NSU) set a personal-best mark of 10-6 ft. to capture the gold at the Coach O Invite.

Reggie Dixon (Hampton)
won the 60m dash in 6.83 and was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.52m at the Father Diamond Invite.

Kameron George (NSU) won the mile run at the Coach O Invite with a time of 4:31.33.

Aleah Hordges (SSU) won the 400m run with a time of 57.91 and was a member of the 4x400m relay team that won with a time of 3:52.30.

Chandelic Jackson (FAMU) won the 3,000m run (10:55.62) and was second in the mile run (5:21.51) at the Ed Temple meet.
