Andre Walsh Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Sophomore Andre Walsh has been named to the 2011 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Walsh was one of 420 male student-athletes receiving the honor.  To qualify on the academic side, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.  In addition, he or she must have ranked in the top 96 in an indoor event or competed in any round of the NCAA Division I outdoor championships.

In track competition, Walsh had a strong season with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  He ranked 12th in the country in the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.38 seconds in the MEAC Championships, reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships in Bloomington, Indiana and finishing 14th in the East Region.

He also qualified through the indoor circuit, ranking 24th in the country in the 200m dash with a sprint of 21.06 seconds at the IC4A Indoor Championships and 70th in Division I in the 60m dash with a finish of 6.78 seconds at the UMES Collegiate Invitational.

As a student, Walsh, majoring in English, has a 3.36 cumulative GPA after getting a 3.769 last semester.

Walsh is one of two male student-athletes from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to receive this honor, the other being Brandon Baskerville of Coppin State University.
