Coppin State sophomore Jibri Victorian has been selected to participate in the United States Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 400-meter hurdles beginning on Friday (June 24) at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Victorian is the first Coppin State athlete to ever compete at the USA Track and Field Championships.
"It doesn't get any better than this," said Coppin State head coach Carl Hicks. "This is the ultimate in track and field."
Victorian is one of 23 hurdlers scheduled to compete for a spot on the Team USA squad that will participate in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Victorian will run in the second heat, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. EST on Friday. His heat includes Michael Tinsley and Justin Gaymon who are both world-ranked hurdlers. D'Juan Richardson, Adam Durham and Richard Lowe are also scheduled to compete in his heat.
The top three finishers from each heat plus the next four fastest times will advance to the semifinals, which will be held on Saturday at 3:20 p.m. The top four finishers from each of the semifinal heats will advance to the finals on Sunday at 5:02 p.m.
The top three finishers in the finals will earn a spot on Team USA.
