MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Maryland  Eastern Shore freshman Owen Cain and Coppin State sophomore Christina Epps were named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Cain (Fr., Montgomery Village, Md., Jumps) broke a 29 year old school record for Maryland Eastern Shore in the triple jump at the Penn Relays. Cain recorded a distance of 14.89m (48-10.25 ft) to finish fourth in the event. The previous school mark of 14.88m (48-10.00 ft) was held by McKinley Tull in 1982.  

Epps (So., Morristown, N.J., Jumps) captured gold in the eastern section of the triple jump at the Penn Relays with a distance of 12.67m (41-07.00 ft). Her distance tops her previous school record of 12.45m (40-10.25 ft) set in 2010.

Other Top Performers:


Champagne Bell (NSU) - finished second (6.01m, 19-09.00 ft) in the eastern section of the long jump at the Penn Relays.

Rashad Cannon (NSU) - leaped 7.39m (24-03.00 ft) in the long jump at the Penn Relays for a third place finish.

Trey Charles (MSU) - aided the Bears to a fourth place finish in the 4x100m relay in 41.36 at the Penn Relays.

Kemar Clark (B-CU) - finished 16th in the 110m hurdles in 14.45 at the Penn Relays.

Reggie Dixon (Ham) - took ninth place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.68 at the Penn Relays.

Vanessa Henry (UMES) - set a school record with a toss of 16.30m (53-05.75 ft) in the shot put to finish third at the Penn Relays.

Racquel Vassell (Ham) - aided the Lady Pirates to a fourth place finish in the 4x200m relay in 1:37.76 at the Penn Relays.
