Eagles Set Two School Records at New Balance InvitationalNEW YORK -- Sophomore Christina Epps and the Coppin State 4x200-meter relay team each broke school records during competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the New Balance Track and Field Center.
Epps broke her own school record in the triple jump with a jump of 40-00.50, which earned her a third-place finish overall. She topped her previous record of 39-05.25 in becoming the first Coppin State student-athlete to ever top 40-00.00 indoors.
The Eagles 4x200-relay team of Hafsatu Kamara, Shanee Smith, Samantha Leigh and Onya Boyd broke the school record in a time of 1:42.73. They easily broke the previous record of 1:44.25 established in 2005. The Eagles finished 10th overall in the event.
Coppin State also received an 11th-place finish from its 4x400-relay team. The team of Shena Brownell, Alexis Easterling, Boyd and Ashley Bacote finished 11th overall in a time of 3:55.19.
Other than Epps, Leigh had the Eagles highest individual finish as she placed 34th overall in the 200 meters in 25.86.

Dixon, Calder Win Event Titles At Armory
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Hampton senior Damon Dixon and junior Claudia Calder each won an event title at the Armory New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Armory Track & Field Center.
Dixon jumped a season-best 2.09 meters to take the men's Eastern high jump event, while Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) won the women's college high jump event at a season-best height of 1.78 meters.
On the Pirates' end, junior Reggie Dixon ran a 6.65 in the 60-meter dash championship race to finish second - after posting the top preliminary time with a 6.64. He also helped the 4x200-meter relay team - along with senior Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.), Damon Dixon and freshman Je'Von Hutchison- finish fifth with a 1:28.02.
Freshman Cydney Robinson ran a 56.54 in the college 400-meter dash race to come in fifth, while also helping the 4x800-meter relay team - along with junior Benita Taylor, freshman Alaine Tate and freshman Devyn Thompson - finish sixth in the championship race with a 9:09.34.
The Pirates finished 15th in the team standing with 17 points. LSU scored 97 points to win the men's team championship by 17 points over Texas A&M.
Senior Racquel Vassell ran an 8.31 in the 60-meter hurdles championship race to finish eighth, while jumping 5.59 meters in the long jump championship to finish 15th.
Tate ran a 2:14.88 to finish 12th in the college 800-meter run.
The Lady Pirates scored four points to finish in a tie for 26th with Delaware, Morgan State and UTEP. BYU scored 90.5 points to win the women's title, by 5.5 points over LSU.

Henry Breaks School, Meet Shot Put Record On Day Two Of Giegengack Invite
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Vanessa Henry and sophomore Chelsea Lowe continue to re-write the history books for Maryland Eastern Shore indoor track and field team as they competed Saturday at the Seventh Annual Giegengack Invitational, held at Coxe Cage, on the Yale University campus.
Henry, who broke the school's weight throw record on Jan. 28, broke the shot put record with a first place finishing distance of 15.39m (50' 6"). The throw broke her previous record of 15.02m (49' 3.50"), which she set on Feb. 12, 2010 at the MEAC Championships. Henry's throw also broke the meet record of 15.10m set on Feb. 6, 2010 by Brown University's Brynn Smith.
Also finishing in the top ten for UMES in the women's shot put was freshman Lexia Robinson who finished ninth with a throw of 12.35m (40' 6.25").
Lowe, who broke the school's pole vault record for the second time last Saturday in University Park, Pa., marked a judge's distance of 3.15m (10' 4") today, which was good for 10th place. Her previous record was 3.00m (9' 10").
Logging a personal record on the day in the women's 400m, sophomore Jennell Wade ran a time of 57.67, which was good for second place. Sophomore Melina Gallas finished third in the event with a time of 57.90. Junior Monique Hawkins and sophomore Kenesha Abrams finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 58.07 and 58.26.
In the women's 800m, junior Cynthia Anais ran a time of 2:09.43, which was good for second place, while sophomore Emilie Ducados marked a personal record of 2:11.38, good for third. Junior Eunice Jones finished sixth with a time of 2:13.50.
The Lady Hawks' 4x400 relay team consisting of Abrams, Wade, Gallas and Anais finished second on the day with a time of 3:51.42.
The men took home gold and silver in the triple jump with freshmen Owen Cain and Denvil Ruan. Cain finished first with a distance of 14.26m (46' 9.50") while Ruan marked a distance of 14.13m (46" 4.25), good for second.
In the shot put, sophomore Marcus Brown placed third with a throw of 16.10m (52' 10"). Juniors Jermol Dix and Ackeem Smith finished second and fourth in the 60m hurdles with respective times of 8.19 and 8.28.
Freshman Donohue Williams (Kingston, Jamaica) placed sixth in the 500m with a time of 1:04.69.
Junior Paul Jones-Burden finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 50.24.
