Epps Breaks School Record; Ties for Best
Jump in Nation
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Coppin State junior Christina
Epps broke her own school record in winning the triple jump at the Princeton
New Year's Invitational on Saturday and also tied for the best jump in the
nation this year.
Epps won the
event with a jump of 41-5.00, which easily topped her previous school record of
40-8.25. Her jump ties her with France Makabu of Middle Tennessee State for the
best triple jump in the nation.
Mitchell
finished fourth in the triple jump with an effort of 38-9.50, which ties her
for second all-time at Coppin State with Natoya Baird. She also placed fifth in
the long jump with a mark of 18-2.50, which ranks fourth all-time in Eagle
history.
Hafsatu Kamara,
Alexis Easterling and the Eagles 4x400 relay each recorded top-10 finishes on
the day.
Kamara finished
fourth in the 60 meters in 7.87, Easterling placed seventh in the long jump
with a jump of 17-11.75 and the team of Easterling, Shena Brownell, Ashley
Bacote and Sandra Bonga finished fifth in 3:59.83.

Hornets Compete in Last Meet for Next Month
PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Tariq
Devore took the lone gold medal for the Delaware State University men’s indoor
track and field team Saturday as he placed first in the 600-meter run at the
Princeton New Year’s Invitational.
In his first 600m race of the season, Devore ran a time of 1:20.27. Junior
teammate Kevaughn Laviea placed seventh in the race with a time of 1:23.11.
In the men’s 60-meter dash preliminaries, freshman Andre Henry ran a 7.02 to
finish fifth and qualify for the finals. In the 60m finals, he finished third
with a time of 7.03.
Fellow freshman Eyong Oma was the highest DSU finisher in the 300-meter dash
with his fifth place finish time of 35.77.

Lady Hornets Compete in Last Meet for
Next Month
PRINCETON, N.J. – In the third meet
of the indoor season, Delaware State sophomore Ketsia Dornevil took gold
individually in the 600-meter run and as a part of the 4x400-meter relay at the
Princeton New Year’s Invitational Saturday.
Dornevil finished first in the 600m with a time of 1:34.73. Also running in the
600m were junior Dashera Richardson and freshman Ashley Robinson. Richardson
placed fifth with in 1:37.82 while Robinson was 25th in 1:45.30. This was their
first time competing in the 600m this season.
Richardson and Dornevil were the anchors of the 4x400 relay squad that ran a
time of 3:51.94, good for first place. Running the first two legs of the relay
were junior Calisa Emerson and senior Tracey Fan Fan.
Fan Fan, competing in the 60-meter hurdles, finished first in the preliminaries
with a time of 8.98 to qualify for the finals, where she ran a season-best
8.85, good for second place overall.
In the field events, sophomore Maria Gwengi placed fifth in the shot put with a
throw of 12.26m, her best this season.
Also recording season-bests was junior Krystina Muhammad who collected a judge’s mark of 5.55m, good
for sixth place in the long jump. Muhammad also finished seventh in the triple
jump with a distance of 11.73m.

Dixon Wins Two
More Events at Golden Flash Gala
KENT,
Ohio –
Hampton University senior Reggie Dixon continued his hot start to the 2011-12
indoor season on Friday and Saturday, winning a pair of events at the Golden
Flash Gala hosted by Kent State University at the Kent State Field House.
Dixon,
like he did on Dec. 3 in the Navy Invitational, took the titles in the 60-meter
dash and 200-meter dash. He won the 60-meter dash after running a 6.67 in the
final – setting a Kent State Field House facility record (beating his old
record, from last season, by .01 seconds).
He
also ran a season-best 21.33 in the 200-meter dash to win that event.
Sophomore
Je’Von Hutchison ran a 1:53.72 to come in third in the 800-meter run, while
freshman Chidi Okezie came in third in the 400-meter dash after running a
48.66.
Hutchison
and Okezie were also on the Pirates’ 4x400-meter relay team, along with
freshmen Brien Berry and Mohamed Labor-Koroma, which ran a combined 3:17.92, a
season best, to finish fourth.
Junior
Jaleel Rogers ran a 1:54.87 to come in fifth in the 800-meter run, while
freshman Corrin Harris finished fifth in the long jump after leaping 6.62
meters.
Freshman
Tyler Jackson ran an 8.54 to come in seventh in the 60-meter hurdles.
