MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Norfolk State University sophomore James Taylor and University of Maryland Eastern Shore junior Cynthia Anais have been selected as the MEAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.

Taylor (So., Suffolk, Virginia, Sprints) recorded a personal best time in the 200m dash of 21.08 earning a second place finish in the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational. Taylor currently ranks 10th in the nation in the event. He also sprinted to a third place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 6.72.

Anais (Jr., Martinique, France, Sprints) broke the University of Albany Great Dane Classic 800m dash meet record with a time of 2:07.95, Anias also broke UMES's record in the event which former Lady Hawk Merrecia James set in 2007 with a time of 2:08.41. Her time in the event currently ranks third in the nation.

Other Top Performers:

Andre Walsh (UMES) won the 400m dash with a time of 48.78 at the Great Dane Classic.

Jaleel Rogers (Ham) placed third in the 600m run with a time of 1:21.96.

Candice Shirley (MSU) set a record at the Great Dane Classic in the weight throw with a distance of 18.31m (60-01.00 ft.).

Champagne Bell (NSU) took third place in the 200m dash (55.82) at the Hokie Invitational.

Racquel Vassell (Ham) grabbed gold in both the 200m dash (24.69) and the 4x400m relay with a combined team time of 3:50.35 at the Terrapin Invitational.
