NSU Women, Men Lead After Day Two of MEAC Outdoor Championships

The Norfolk State Spartan women and men track and field teams lead after the second day of competition at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

The Spartans finished day two with 67 points. The defending MEAC Champion Hampton Lady Pirates are second with 43 points, while the North Carolina A&T Lady Agggies are currently third with 30 points.

In the women's field events, South Carolina State's Shamire Rothmiller won the javelin with a 136-06 ft. throw. Coppin State's Selena Weekly was second with a 123-09 ft. toss and North Carolina A&T's Katherine Forrester was third with a 114-07 ft. throw.

UMES' Vanessa Henry won the shot put with a 49-01.50 ft. toss. South Carolina State's Shamire Rothmiller was second with a 47-11.75 ft. throw and Bethune-Cookman's Ron-Danielle Williams was third with a 47-00.75 ft. mark.

In men's action, the defending MEAC Champion NSU Spartans are first with 51.50 points. Maryland Eastern Shore currently sits in second with 39 points followed by South Carolina State in third with 28 points.

Off the track, Levar Knight of South Carolina State won the long jump with a 24-11.75 ft. jump. Florida A&M's Leon Hunt (24-06.25 ft.) was second followed by Stephen Small-Warner in third (24-02.25 ft.).

The final day of competition begins tomorrow at 10 a.m., with the men's and women's triple jump, men's shot put, men's pole vault and women's discus.  Early afternoon field events include the high jump and javelin events. Running events will begin at 1 p.m. The championships will conclude with the men's and women's 4x400m relay races.
