Kendrick Places Fourth at ECAC Championships in 400 Meter Dash

The 2010 ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up on Sunday at Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University.

The Lady Bears scored five points and finished tied for 39th with Rider, Dartmouth and Fordham out of 51 teams. Connecticut captured the title with 105 points and was the only team to record 100 points. Fellow MEAC foe, Maryland Eastern Shore scored eight points and finished tied for 34th.

Tanisha Kendrick scored the Lady Bears lone points with her fourth-place finish on Sunday in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.37. A day earlier on Saturday, Kendrick ran a time of 55.01, which placed eighth during the preliminary round to secure the final spot for Sunday's title race.

Allison Randall placed 14th and 15th respectively in the discus and shot put. Randall had a throw of 131-11 in the discus and a toss of 44-04.75 in the shot put.

Avionne Sloan finished 12th in the 400 meter dash (55.49) during the preliminaries and also finished 14th in the 200 meter dash (24.59), also during the preliminary round. Britney Wattley placed 31st (25.07) in the 200 meter dash preliminaries, also finished 21st (12.28) in the 100 meter dash preliminaries.

The NCAA will announce the final list of those competing in the East Regional on Monday, May 17 at 9 p.m.

Bowen, Charles Each Place Second at IC4A Championships

 The 2010 IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up on Sunday at Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University.

Morgan State scored 16 points and finished tied for 18th with Syracuse and Villanova out of 55 teams. Connecticut captured the title with 64 points. Fellow MEAC foes, Hampton (35 points) and Maryland Eastern Shore (33 points) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Kevin Bowen and Trey Charles both ran season best times in the preliminaries and tallied second-place finishes in their respective events to account for the Bears' only points of the meet.

Bowen set his season best time in the 400 meter dash during the preliminaries in a time of 46.30 to rank him in the top 20 in the East Region. Bowen finished the second in the finals with a time of 46.50, falling short to fellow MEAC runner, Allodin Fothergill of Maryland Eastern Shore, who won the race in a time of 46.45 seconds.

Charles ran a season-best time of 51.24 during the preliminaries of the 400 meter hurdles. Charles' time, which was the fastest during the preliminary round, just beat out Virginia's Steve Delice (51.25) and ranked him 16th in the nation. However, Charles would run a time of 51.35 in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles, while Delice would capture the title in a time of 51.17.

The 4X400 meter relay team of Jordan Higgs and Carbinere Whyte along with Charles and Bowen, finished 10th in the preliminary round with a time of 3:11.77.

Whyte placed 18th in the preliminaries of the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.74, while Bowen finished 28th, running in a time of 22.22. Whyte also finished 27th in the preliminary round of the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.92.

Pirates Win Event Title At Ic4a Outdoor Championships

Five members of the Hampton's men's track & field team had a strong showing over the weekend at the 2010 IC4A Outdoor Championships hosted by Princeton on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the William Weaver Track & Field Stadium.

The Pirates finished fifth in the team standings with 35 points, one point behind third-place George Mason and four points behind third-place Rutgers. Connecticut won the team title with 64 points.

Junior Aaron Anderson gave the Pirates an individual title by taking the 200-meter dash with a 21.04. He also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash after running a 10.57, and he was on the 4x100-metrer relay team.

That squad, which also included junior Predist Walker, junior Devon Brown and sophomore Reggie Dixon, ran a 40.35 to finish second, after posting the top preliminary time with a 39.94.

Reggie Dixon also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash, running a 10.58.

Hawks Finish Sixth At IC4A Championships

Senior Allodin Fothergill led  Maryland Eastern Shore men's track and field team to a sixth place finish at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America Championships Sunday.

The Hawks recorded 33 points on the day and placed better than nearly fifty teams on the weekend.

Fothergill registered 10 points of his own by winning the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 46.45. Junior Thomas Keane-Dawes placed fifth in the same event with a time of 47.46, which was good for four points.

The duo also helped the men's 4x100 meter relay team to a first place finish in 40.32. Other members of the relay include sophomores Damian Miles and Akheem Gauntlett.

Gauntlett and Miles earned nine more points for UMES by finishing fourth and fifth with respective times of 21.31 and 21.55.

In the women's Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, the Lady Hawks finished 34th with eight points.

Sophomore Eunice Jones led UMES with four points, finishing fifth in the women's 800-meter run in 2:07.70.  Fellow sophomore Cynthia Anais finished seventh in a time of 2:08.25.

Anais Breaks School Record At Ecac/Ic4a Championships

Sophomore Cynthia Anais broke the school record for Maryland Eastern Shore in the women's 800-meter run at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday.

Anais recorded a time of 2:05.84, which broke Celia Whyte's record of 2:07.95 that was set exactly a year ago in Atlanta, Ga.  Anais' time was good for sixth overall as she qualified for action on Sunday.

Fellow sophomore Eunice Jones also qualified for Sunday in the 800m with her eighth place time of 2:07.13.

The women's 4x400 meter relay finished eighth in 3:45.95 to qualify for the finals. Members of the squad include freshmen Emilie Ducados , Kenesha Abrams and Melina Gallas in addition to sophomore Monique Hawkins.

The men's 4x100 meter relay finished fourth in their race with a time of 40.57 to qualify for Sunday.  This squad is made up of junior Thomas Keane-Dawes, senior Allodin Fothergill and sophomores Damian Miles and Akheem Gauntlett.

Gauntlett and Miles also individually qualified for Sunday in the men's 200-meter dash. Gauntlett finished fifth with a time of 20.95 while Miles was seventh in 21.20.

The Hawks finish the ECAC/IC4A Championships Sunday beginning at noon with the IC4A 4x100 at 12:10 p.m.
