The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday the NCAA Division I National Team Rankings for outdoor track and field and Maryland Eastern Shore men's squad was ranked seventh out of 60 in the Mid-Atlantic Region for the first time in school history.
In addition to the team's regional ranking, the Hawks are slated 88th in the nation, out of over 300 schools.
"It is certainly an honor to be considered one of the top teams in the region," said head coach Ernest Barrett. "We will continue to work hard and strive to make improvements as the season goes on."
UMES is led by senior Allodin Fothergill, junior Thomas Keane-Dawes and sophomore Akheem Gauntlett.
Fothergill is ranked 27th nationally in the 400 meters with a time of 47.29, which was clocked at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational.
Keane-Dawes comes in right behind Fothergill in the 400 with a 29th place ranking with his Wake Forest Open time of 47.30.
In the men's 100 meters, Gauntlett is tied for 36th with his Wake Forest Open time of 10.50.
Earlier in the year, the men's indoor team was ranked sixth in the region, the highest ranking in school history for that sport.
