McCorory Wins Event Title At Florida Relays

Hampton senior Francena McCorory won an event title to lead the women's track & field team on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Florida Relays, held at the Percy Beard Track at the University of Florida.

McCorory ran a 22.92 in the 200-meter dash to take the title, her first individual crown of the outdoor season.

McCorory also led the 4x200-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish with a 1:34.12, and she was on the 4x100-meter relay team that ran a 45.53 to finish ninth - as well as the 1,600-meter sprint medley team that finished eighth with a time of 4:01.20.

McCorory also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team, which ran a 3:45.19 to finish 15th.

Predist Walker turned in the best individual performance for the men's track & field team, running a 14.43 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish 15th.

The Pirates' 4x100-meter relay team - with Reggie Dixon, Justin Battle, Devon Brown and Aaron Anderson - finished seventh after running a 40.14, while the distance medley relay squad - Xavier Fraction, Lamar Veale, Michael Davenport and David Kimani - finished eighth with a 10:18.36.

Several Lady Pirates also competed in the Colonial Relays on Friday and Saturday at Zable Stadium on the campus of William & Mary. The 4x1,500-meter relay team finished seventh with a time of 20:26.81, while the 4x800-meter relay squad - Kenya Jones, Janean Morris, Jahlisa Smith and Shaquanda Gainey - ran a 9:04.57 to finish seventh in its section.

Jones also finished sixth in her section of the 1,500-meter run, running a 4:37.02. Morris ran a 2:14.92 in her section of the 800-meter run to come in sixth, while Smith finished seventh in the same section with a 2:17.82.

Jocelyn Watkins threw the discus 39.72 meters to finish fourth in her flight.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Greensboro, N.C. for the Murray Neely Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T.
