Kirby Leads Spartan Women at Morgan State

Wanetta Kirby won the long jump title after jumping 18 feet, 11 ¾ inches at the Morgan State Legacy this past weekend. Kirby also ran a 13.91 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, which is one of the MEAC's fastest times in that event this season. She finished second in the finals of the 100-hurdles in 13.92

NSU also got several top-five finishes in other events. She'Anna Mitchell and Jonee' Artis took third and fourth in the high jump, respectively, after both clearing 5-5. Tierra Flowers finished second in the 100 in 11.69 after qualifying in 11.81 in the preliminaries. Elaine Rhoades was second in the 400, finishing in 1:02.62.

In the pole vault, Andrea Saunders came in fourth after clearing 8-4 ¼. Alaina Hite (38-0) and Rhoades (37-3 ¼) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump.

Kaleena Gray finished fifth in the discus after hitting a mark of 127-8 and came in seventh in the shot put with a throw of 37-4 ½.

The Spartans travel to Philadelphia, Pa. this weekend for the 2010 Penn Relays in their last meet before the MEAC Outdoor Championship.
