Hampton Track and Field Wins Six Titles At Murray Neely Invite

The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams won a combined six event titles on Saturday at the Murray Neely Invitational, held at Irwin Belk Track.

The Pirates won five event titles, while the Lady Pirates took home one.

Claudia Calder won the lone event for the Lady Pirates, taking the high jump competition with a height of 1.64 meters.

David Kimani won two events for the Pirates, taking the 1,500-meter run with a 4:06.99 and the 5,000-meter run after running a 15:44.78. Freshman Michael Davenport ran a 10:09.41 to take the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Damon Dixon jumped 1.95 meters to take the high jump competition, while Lamar Veale threw the javelin 49.90 meters to win that event.

Freshman Xavier Fraction ran a 1:53.63 to finish second in the 800-meter run. Aaron Anderson's 10.58 in the 100-meter dash was good enough for third, and Reggie Dixon ran a 21.38 to finish third in the 200-meter dash.

Benita Taylor ran a 2:19.92 in the 800-meter run to finish third for the Lady Pirates. Jocelyn Watkins finished fourth in the shot put (12.37 meters) and the javelin throw (27.34 meters), while Margaret Harris jumped 5.30 meters in the long jump to finish fourth.

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Baltimore, Md. for the Morgan State Legacy Meet, while the Lady Pirates will return to Greensboro, N.C. for the International Freedom & Friendship Games.
