Senior Jerrine Foster started the 2010 outdoor track and field season with two first-place finishes in throwing events at the Wake Forest Open.
Foster finished in first place in the women's shot put and discus. In the shot put, Foster's best throw went 48-feet, 11-inches. Her first-place finish in the discus included a throw of 146-feet, 5-inches. Foster and fellow senior Katherine Forrester have combined to become an outstanding combo in throwing events for the Aggies. That continued at Wake Forest as Forrester finished third and fourth in the discus and shot put respectively. Foster had the best showing of her career in the Wake Forest Open.
Freshman Sherice Walker got her outdoor career off to a good start. Walker placed first in the women's long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 5 ¼ inches. Sophomore Ruth Hunt also got her season off to a good start. She finished fourth in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.48. Also on the women's side, the Aggies 4x100 relay team finished third, while the 4x400 relay team finished fourth.
On the men's side, freshman Jared Baldwin had fourth place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. Baldwin jumped 45-feet, 10-inches to win the triple jump, while his leap of 23-feet, 6 ½ inches led him to victory in the long jump. Junior Robert Boulware, who has stepped into the role of being the Aggies veteran thrower, finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 51-feet, 2 ¾ inches. On the track, Jarrell Elliott placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 21.49.
The Aggies return to action March 26-27 in the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State. N.C. A&T will have its first home track meet of the season April 2-3 in the Aggie Relays.
