The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) completed day one of the Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
The reigning MEAC Indoor Track and Field Champion Norfolk State Spartans took the lead heading into day two with 69 points. Delaware State finished in second with 33 points followed by Hampton in third with 32 points.
Tyron Benjamin of Morgan State broke a meet record with a 15.97m (52-04.75 ft.) toss in the weight throw. MSU's Anthony Napoleon set the previous mark of 15.19m in 2009.
In women's action, the Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks totaled 53 points through six scored events. Norfolk State followed in second place with 41 points, while Hampton, the reigning MEAC Women's Indoor champion, finished in third during the first day's competition with 31.50 points.
Morgan State's Allison Randall set a meet record with an 18.58m (60-11.50 ft.) mark in the weight throw. Randall held the previous record of 16.15m that she threw at last year's championship.
The competition concludes on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. with the women's pole vault and conclusion of the women's pentathlon events. Early afternoon field events include the men's heptathlon, shot put, high jump and triple jump events. A complete schedule of events is available on www.MEACsports.com.
Saturday, February 13 is designated as Youth Day and Adopt A Team Day. Fans 18 and under are admitted free with a valid student ID. Fans are also encouraged to select one of the participating MEAC institutions and show their support by wearing the team's colors.
