COLLEGE STATION, Pa. - Freshman Marcus Brown had another record-breaking day in the men's weight throw this weekend as the Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Penn State Invitational at the Penn State-Ashenfelter Track.

Brown, who placed 14th in the weight throw event, threw a distance of 16.52 meters, topping his previous school record of 14.63 meters that he set on December 11, 2009 at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational at UMES.

Several other Hawks had excellent performances this weekend.  Senior Allodin Fothergill continued to dominate on the track with first place time of 46.52 in the 400-meter dash, which set a new meet record.  Joe Mendel set the previous record in 2004 with a time of 46.55.  With his time, Fothergill ranks fourth in the country in his event.

Junior Thomas Keane-Dawes ran a personal-best with his time of 21.81 in the 200-meter dash.  Keane-Dawes placed fourth overall in the event while sophomore Akheem Gauntlett placed second with a time of 21.54.

Three Lady Hawks also recorded personal bests in the meet.  Sophomore Cynthia Anais placed first in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:10.38 while junior Eunice Jones ran a 2:19.42, which was good for seventh place.  In the weight throw, sophomore Vanessa Henry threw a personal best of 16.22 meters, which was good for 15th place.

UMES next takes on the Armory New Balance Games in New York, N.Y. on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6.
