Brown And Dix Qualify For IC4A Championships

Maryland Eastern Shore men's indoor track and field team kicked off their season Saturday with the Navy Invitational, held at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.  There was no team scoring at the meet.

Sophomore Marcus Brown finished first and third in his two events of the day, the shot put and weight throw.  Brown recorded distances of 15.80m in the shot put and 15.01m in the weight throw.  His shot put mark qualifies him for the IC4A Championships, held March 5-6 in Boston, Mass., which had a provisional point of 15.60m.

Junior Jermol Dix also qualified for the IC4A Championship with his 60m hurdles time of 8.15, 10 seconds better than the provisional time of 8.25.

In his first collegiate meet of his career, sophomore Rico Taylor placed third in the high jump with a height of 1.99m.

The Hawks had two athletes place in the top-10 of the long jump in freshman Denvil Ruan and Dix.  Ruan placed sixth with a distance of 6.70m while Dix was ninth with a judge's mark of 6.55m.

Freshman Donohue Williams posted a time of 1:57.86 in the 800m run, coming in seventh place.

Sophomore Basil Melek, coming off of a tremendous cross country season for UMES, finished eighth in the 5000m run with a time of 15:11.72.
