MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

Hampton University junior Reggie Dixon and Morgan State junior Calvin Dascent were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field  Male Co-Athletes of the Week. Hampton's Racquel Vassell was named the MEAC Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Dixon (Jr., Plainfield, New Jersey, Sprints) won two individual first-place titles at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.  The junior set a facility record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.68 and took home the gold with a time of 21.31 in the 200m dash.

Dascent (Jr., St. Croix, Virginia Islands, Sprints) won the 400m dash with at time of 48.21 at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala. His time ranks atop the MEAC in the event and is second in the nation. The junior was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that won with a time of 3:13.65.

Vassell (Sr., Irvington, New Jersey, Sprints) finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.51 at UMES' Coach O Invite. Vassell also won the 60m dash in 7.63.

Other Top Performers:

Marcus Brown (UMES) captured the gold in the weight throw with a 15.71m (51-06.1/2 ft.) toss at the UMES Coach O Invite. He also placed among the top three in the shot put with a 5.42m (50-07 ¼ ft.)  throw.

Tracey Fan Fan (DSU) finished among the top five in the 60m dash (7.95) and the 60m hurdles (9.17) at the UEMS Coach O Invite.

Vanessa Henry (UMES) won the weight throw with a 15.81m (51-10 ½ ft.) mark and set a school record in the shot put with a 15.09m (49-06 ¼ ft.) toss at the UMES Coach O Invite.

Darius Sivels (DSU) won the 60m dash in 7.02 and finish in third in the high jump with a 1.93m (6-07 ft.) leap at UMES' Coach O Invite.

Monae Waller (MSU) was second in the pentathlon with 3,464 points and tied for second in the high jump (5-05 ft.) at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.
